The Mission to Seafarers has grown to become one of the largest port-based welfare operators in the world, providing service in 200 ports, 365 days a year across 50 countries. In addition to charitable giving, the Mission ministry work to meet the spiritual needs of seafarers. As a church-based maritime welfare organization, the Mission activities are driven by faith and social responsibility.

The Mission to Seafarers Halifax is seeking a part-time Chaplain/Ship Visitor.

The successful candidate will work closely with the manager, staff, and volunteers to promote and provide for the spiritual, physical, social justice and mental wellbeing of all seafarers visiting the Port of Halifax. The candidate will be responsible for ship visiting, transport coordination of the seafarers, communication with crew members, counselling, general care and consideration for seafarers during their stay at the Port.

The candidate will possess excellent communication skills; the ability to work with and serve diverse cultures and backgrounds; ability to work independently and collaboratively with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This individual will work effectively in a faith-based ecumenical setting. Computer literacy is required and the ability and knowledge to perform responsible administrative duties with speed and accuracy is required. Knowledge industry or transportation sector and the Port of Halifax would be considered an asset.

This position requires a post-secondary education in relevant field or combination of education and applicable experience. The individual must be an ordained minister preferably within the Anglican Diocese. Experience in a nonprofit charity environment would be an asset as well as knowledge applicable to the management and maintenance of Windows based products.

The position has a competitive salary and must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends.

The successful candidate will be required to pass and maintain a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector check.
