Job Opportunity: Diocesan Archivist

Part-Time, 12 hours/week | Permanent Position

The Anglican Diocese of Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island is seeking a dedicated Diocesan Archivist to preserve and manage the Diocese’s historical records. This role is ideal for someone passionate about archival work, committed to professional standards, and eager to support the Church’s mission through its documentary heritage.

About the Role
Reporting to the Diocesan Manager of Operations, the Archivist oversees the Diocesan Archives (370 metres of records, 4 metres of artifacts, 10 metres of library materials), participates in the Archives Committee, and contributes to diocesan initiatives. The role involves accessioning, describing, arranging, and preserving records; responding to research requests; advising on records management; and engaging with professional networks.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (History or Cultural History preferred); post-graduate studies in Archival Science or IT an asset
  • Minimum 3 years archival experience or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Anglican Church and local history an asset
  • Strong organizational, communication, and research skills
  • Familiarity with archival principles, preservation methods, and Microsoft Office

Working Conditions

  • Part-time (12 hours/week), based at the Synod Office
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and perform typical archival tasks
  • Attendance at Synod required
