In accordance with Diocesan Canon 25, The Most Rev’d Ron Cutler is inviting applications for the positions of the following:

 Rector, full-time time, for the Parish of St. Peter's Hackett's, closing date Friday July 31st, at 5:00 pm. 

The Parish is located in a rural/residential community just 35 minutes from Metro Halifax and is a three-point parish on the eastern shore of St. Margaret’s Bay encompassing the communities of Glen Margaret, Hackett’s Cove (St. Peter’s Church), Indian Harbour (St. Andrew’s Church), Peggy’s Cove (St. John’s Church) and West Dover.  These communities are found along the 333 Highway.  In this age of travel and mobility, parishioners may live anywhere in the St. Margaret’s Bay area and as far as Halifax.  Principally retired persons makeup the majority of our congregation.  There is one major industry in the area, Nautel Limited in Hackett’s Cove which employs approximately 200 people, most of whom reside locally.  Also, a number of parishioners are employed in the fisheries and Tourism industry as well as some small and family businesses.  As well as some parishioners travel to work in the Halifax/Dartmouth areas. 

St. Peter’s Church building is celebrating 150 years as a presence in the area.  With the addition of the church hall, the building is available to the community for many functions.  Our mission and vision is – a parish that is a part of the whole people of God serving Christ.  A friendly church centered in the hope and truth of the Gospel, providing hospitality, outreach and celebrating God’s blessings.

Parishioners are looking for a Rector who is an involved and a collaborative spiritual leader in both the church and in the community, working with and supporting the leadership in the parish. They should communicate well and have working knowledge of various electronic media; have a sense of humour and a caring, compassionate personality; be willing and enthusiastic to participate in our ministries and willing to welcome all people to our Parish; be flexible and tactful in blending the needs of our mature parishioners while also exploring growth opportunities for the parish.  Finally, we are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic person whose goal will be to work with the Parish to building on our mutual strengths, respect our challenges, and grow our ministry as we navigate through the changes that face many Anglican churches in Canada.

Church services are held weekly at 10:30 am in St. Peter’s, with Sunday school teaching available to any child that wishes to attend.  Refreshments and fellowship follow the services.  St. Andrew’s and St. John’s services alternate weekly at 9:00 am in the summer [St. John’s Church closes for the winter months].  Study and fellowship are held most Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in the hall at St. Peter’s Church with praise and teaching and opportunity for open discussions.  Men’s breakfast is held at 8:30 am on the last Saturday of each month at St. Peter’s Church hall, all are welcome.  Various Ladies groups have meetings including the Stitchers, all of which are open to new members.  On Sunday morning our church bell rings out, for all to hear, an invitation to join their neighbours and friends to celebrate our faith and the love of God.
