OCTOBER IS MINISTER APPRECIATION MONTH

OCTOBER IS MINISTER APPRECIATION MONTH

Six Minute Study #315

We are all ministers by virtue of our baptism.  Some of us have specific ministries, including being Licensed Lay Ministers, Vocational Deacons, Associate Priests, Rectors and other varieties of clergy. We also have Music Ministers, Parish Nurses, Pastoral Care Visitors, Youth Ministers, etc., etc.

Although ministry is very rewarding, it is also hard work.  Here are some ways to thank your parish and community ministers:

National Youth Leaders Retreat

These past few years have been difficult. Youth Leaders have pivoted, responded to the needs of our young people, journeyed with people as they struggled, been concerned with the mental health and physical well-being of the people we serve, wondered if what we are doing is enough, etc., etc… This list could go on and on. It has been a brutal time.

In response to that, the Anglican Church of Canada’s youth committee is holding a national retreat for youth leaders – right here in our diocese!!!

November 10-13, 2022  at the Tatamagouche Centre

If you are a youth leader and are interested in attending, get in touch with Allie (acolp@nspeidiocese.ca). Costs associated with participation in the retreat would be covered, but space is limited, so don’t hesitate to get in touch!

The Communion Forest

The Communion Forest

What is it? A legacy of the 2022 Lambeth Conference with the aim to increase Anglican tree growing and landscape protection around the world and deepen care for creation within the life of the church.

This is a global act of hope with a wide range of creation care activities depending on local needs and expressions. Churches might choose to take up a project that involves:

Protection – advocating and taking action to stop deforestation or prevent the destruction of other habitats.

Restoration – restoring a piece of waste land or other degraded environment.

Creation – starting a forest initiative on church land or support a project in the wider community.

Growing – protection and restoration should be considered ahead of establishing something new. Where something new is set up, the emphasis should be on growing, not just planting. It is about growing the right kind of tree in the right place.
Multiplying – helping others get involved. Churches or diocese can be a ‘multiplier’ by setting up a tree or plant nursery to enable wider participation in afforestation.

The Games will bring together 756 Indigenous Nations to celebrate, share and reconnect through sport and culture in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Punamu'kwati'jk (Dartmouth) and Millbrook First Nation from July 15 – 23, 2023.

NAIG2023 needs 3000 volunteers.

Each volunteer will attend three orientation sessions.

2. Cultural Awareness (1.5 hours): an overview of Indigenous history (including difficult history), how to talk to and about Indigenous People, and a framework for being an ally.

Please note that a 3rd training will take place closer to the Games that will review the responsibilities of each volunteer role.

Make new friends and experience Indigenous cultures as a volunteer with the 2023 North American Indigenous Games. Learn more and sign up at www.naig2023.com/opportunities.
