From the Human Resources Committee
The Diocesan Council at their June 2021 Meeting approved a NEW HR Policy 2.1.26 – CHECKLIST OF TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PARISH MINISTRY AND MISSION This Policy was developed by the HRVSST in order to assist Archdeacons in developing comprehensive Covenants and Contracts for Clergy serving in this Diocese. Copies of the Policy and accompanying CHECKLIST were sent from the Synod Office in August to 60 Clergy in Part-time Parish Ministry as well as Priests-in-Charge . Clergy were requested to complete a copy of the Checklist and send it to the Chair of the HRVSST. Additional copies submitted by the lay leadership in each Parish were also encouraged. HRVSST will use the date in its review of Policies for Part-time Ministry and Priests-in-charge. In particular we are trying to determine if there are ministry or mission tasks which are not currently being led by clergy or laity in Parishes , which may then need Regional or Diocesan support and training. Copies of the Policy 2.1.26 and Checklist are available on the Diocesan Website, linked here HRVSST will continue to receive Checklists at each of its meetings. Thur. Nov. 25, January 20, March 17 and May 19, 2022. Completed CHECKLISTS can be sent to: The Rev. John K. Morrell, River John, NS B0K 1N0

Mission to Seafarers - Flying Angel
Here is a link to the latest edition of the Mission to Seafarers Newsletter - Flying Angel. Mission to Seafarers Loneliness, danger and separation from loved ones are just some of the challenges that seafarers face every day. SEAFARING IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS OCCUPATIONS. Over 90% of world trade is carried by sea, providing work to 1.5 million seafarers. Throughout a long and distinguished history, The Mission to Seafarers has grown to become one of the largest port-based welfare operators in the world, providing a service in 200 ports, 365 days a year, across 50 countries. Our vision is to operate a network where seafarers are valued and cared for in the ports where the need is greatest. The Halifax Mission to Seafarers is a Canadian non-profit charity. Under the guidance of our mission manager and and support from assistant manager, our volunteers provide a warm welcome where seafarers can relax away from their ships, and obtain support which is relevant, compassionate and life enhancing. Seafarers have access to our free wifi so they can freely communicate with their loved ones. Our Mission provides an interdenominational chaplaincy ministry of practical, emotional and spiritual support to all seafarers passing through our port, regardless of faith or background. Christmas Shoebox CampaignMission to Seafarers Nothing can stop Christmas, and we continue to share with seafarers the joy and spirit of the holidays through gift-giving. The campaign is also our additional way of thanking the Hidden Heroes for their sacrifices and hard work. In many ways, the seafarers deeply appreciate the presents they receive from people who care beyond their homes and families. To all our donors and supporters, we share the seafarers’ THANK YOU! What is in the shoebox – a regular running shoe box? Our team of shoebox experts quality checks the contents of shoeboxes we received if they are already stuffed with items. Otherwise, the items placed in the box are carefully identified and limited only to the above list. The list is deemed as essential items the seafarers generally and personally need onboard. All shoeboxes are gift wrapped by a team of volunteers, signifying the gifts are produced with joy, love, and passion, driven by the spirit of Christmas. What do we need and when is the campaign conducted? Due to the restrictions and threat of COVID 19 in 2020, our donors mostly donated cash, which greatly assisted in managing the inventory and purchasing the items accordingly. October — we start accepting donations of shoeboxes, cash, and kind. For more information contact 902-422-7790 or email Helen Glenn, Mission Manager For more infomation visit: https://www.missiontoseafarershalifax.ca/events/christmas-shoebox-campaign/
