The GUIDING LIGHT series is a new set of training initiatives sponsored by the Missional Program Team of the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, designed to support and strengthen parish and community-based ministry. These workshops focus on practical and pastoral areas such as Funeral Ministry, end-of-life care, pastoral visitation, and home communions. While open to everyone, they are especially valuable for parish lay leaders, Licensed Lay Ministers, Vocational Deacons, theological students, and clergy. Whether serving as assisting ministers, sharing responsibilities within a team, or offering individual pastoral care, participants will find these resources helpful and enriching.

As our Diocese continues to embrace the ministry of all the baptized, GUIDING LIGHT offers explorative learning opportunities without requiring a formal commitment to any specific area of ministry. Each session includes practical tools—handouts, templates, samples, and checklists—that can be assembled into a personalized handbook (a three-ring binder is suggested). The workshops also address diocesan protocols, policies, and the Bishop’s expectations, ensuring participants are well-informed and equipped. This initiative reflects the Spirit’s call to deepen our care for others through thoughtful, compassionate, and well-prepared ministry.
