Loneliness, danger and separation from loved ones are just some of the challenges that seafarers face every day.
SEAFARING IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS OCCUPATIONS. Over 90% of world trade is carried by sea, providing work to about 1.89 million seafarers.
Our volunteers provide a warm welcome where seafarers can relax away from their ships, and obtain support which is relevant, compassionate and life-enhancing. Seafarers have access to our port facility and we also provide transportation for crew members so that they can go shopping or visit the city when they have the opportunity to get ashore. In our facility, we also make free WIFI available so that they can freely communicate with their loved ones. Sometimes it’s just a friendly ear that they need to help them through the hardships of extended time at sea and away from family.
