The Government of Canada is inviting rural residents, businesses, community leaders and anyone connected to rural life to participate in a public consultation that will help shape a new national Rural Development Action Plan.

Running until February 6, 2026, this consultation offers a valuable opportunity for people across Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island — and throughout the country — to share their perspectives on what’s working, what isn’t, and what federal policies and programs could better support rural communities now and into the future.

Participants are asked to reflect on key questions about improving federal initiatives, successful programs in their regions, and what changes could make the greatest difference to long-term sustainability. Feedback can be submitted through an online questionnaire, or by email or mail.

This consultation is an excellent chance for rural voices — including those from faith communities, small businesses, local councils, Indigenous communities, and citizens — to be heard and to help ensure that the unique needs of rural Canada are understood and addressed in national planning.
