I was shocked and appalled to learn of the hateful, anti-Semitic graffiti that appeared on three Jewish synagogues in Halifax this past weekend. As someone who was born and raised in Halifax, I have always been proud of the respect and dignity we have shown one another as people from many different faith traditions who call this place home.

As Anglicans, every time we renew our baptismal vows, we are asked: Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? Our response is: We will, with God’s help. May this be a moment when we live out this promise in prayerful, practical, and concrete ways so that the Jewish community can be assured of our love and care for them in these anxious times.

We know ourselves to be children of the same God and an act of violence against any of our siblings is something we are called to condemn as followers of Jesus Christ. I am reaching out to the leaders of these synagogues on behalf of Anglicans in this diocese to express our concern and support for them and their communities in the face of these acts of anti-Jewish racism. Please join me in solidarity and prayer with our Jewish friends and neighbours as they strive to live faithfully, peacefully, and without fear.

The Anglican Foundation of Canada (AFC) is inviting Anglicans across Canada to establish or expand community ministry partnerships in this year’s Request for Proposals (RFP). Having funded hundreds of community ministry projects across Canada, AFC knows what it takes to build successful partnerships in priority impact areas, such as food security, social justice, leadership and education, arts enrichment, and more. Through grant reports and testimonials, applicants are sharing with AFC their positive experiences working with a variety of partners, including other churches and faith groups, not-for-profit organizations, schools and community educators, and small businesses.

We often see first-time guests walk through our doors in autumn. Sometimes it is difficult to know how warmly to welcome newcomers.  How do we respect people and not appear cold? What if we are so 'warm' we seem desperate for members? How can we strike the right balance of authentically welcoming and providing guests with all they need to consider this their spiritual home?  Read this article published by the Lewis Centre for Church Leadership, written by Lyda K. New sociological research on Christianity and secularism in Canada will be explored at an upcoming webinar Friday, October 10, at 4 p.m. (Atlantic Time). Dr. Ross Lockhart, Professor of Mission Studies and Dean of St. Andrew's Hall, University of British Columbia, offers at presentation called, Minority Report: Christian Witness in a Secular City. The Presbyterian minister and scholar shares his research on 14 ministries on the West Coast and lessons on how Christians are engaging their predominately secular neighbours.

This is the first of a 'Flourishing Forward' series hosted by the Flourishing Congregations Institute, based in Alberta. Join on Zoom for a 30-minute interactive gathering – 20-minute research presentation and 10-minute Q/A (optional 15-minutes after for networking).

Are you wondering how God might be inviting you to serve? Join us for a shared weekend of prayer, conversation, and community as we explore the many paths of our Christian vocation.

Over the course of the weekend, we’ll hear from our bishops, clergy, and lay leaders about the diverse ways people live out their callings — in lay ministry, religious orders, the diaconate, and priesthood. You’ll hear real stories of discernment, have time to reflect, ask the big questions and pray together.

The cost is $50/person. Preregistration is required, and spaces are limited. Hosted at Villa Madonna Retreat Centre, meals and accommodation included.

Atlantic School of Theology (AST) has an incredible opportunity for you this fall with their Certificate in Stewardship, a unique program that explores the themes of time, talent, trust, treasure, terrain, theology and thanks.

This fall only: join the learning cohort for $300 (usual price is $600).

This is the only program of its kind! You can join the AST Stewardship Cohort this fall to go through the seven modules with a facilitator and other learners. 

The cohort meets online for seven weeks on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. beginning September 23, 2025, and will be facilitated by The Rev. Cathy Lee Cunningham.

NDAs, the acronym for Non-Disclosure Agreements, are often used for purposes beyond their original intent (protection of intellectual property). I ask for your assistance: fill it out for yourself, if you are currently serving or are open to serve as a Spiritual Director; as well as sharing it with others you know in the community who are ministering in this capacity.
We will be looking to know such details as availability (day/evenings/weekends); in-person/online/telephone; willingness to take new directees; and, interest in becoming part of a group for further training opportunities.

To have a little fun while we wait for May, we’ll be having a FREE Diocesan Youth Fall Fun Day on October 4 from 10:30 am to 5 pm. You can find all of the details of that here. Transportation can be arranged as long as we have enough time to figure out the logistics – Cape Breton and PEI, this includes you!!

Godly Play is a storytelling-based children’s ministry curriculum and program that encourages wonder, reflection, and exploration. At this day-long workshop, you’ll have time to experience Godly Play, hear about available resources and supports, and talk about how you might be able to use Godly Play in your parish!
