Expansion/Food For Thought when Renting Parish Premises

Expansion/Food For Thought when Renting Parish Premises

If a parish decides that a group renting from does not purchase insurance for the use of their premises and something happens due to the negligence from that group and they are legally liable - the parish policy will not respond nor defend that group if a suit is brought forward - the parish policy will only defend the parish if they are named in that suit.

Ex - individual uses premises for a shower, someone slips and falls due to a spilled drink and brakes hip - person decides to sue for bodily injury - parish is named in suit(parish property)  individual is named as well as it is their event -  parish policy will only respond and defend the parish - the individual would be personally liable and would have to pay their own legal costs and whatever is awarded due to their negligence.

Ex -  if the group that used the premises, burned down the building - and they did not have their own insurance for that event, they would be personally liable and the insurer could subrogate the individuals for damages caused to the build due to their negligence.

TAKING STOCK IN 'CHURCHLAND'

So many things have happened in the last few years. Laity and clergy leaders continue to take stock of where we are related to our ministries, and are carefully discerning the way ahead. Worship, giving and volunteer patterns have changed.

Read this article from Faith & Leadership (Duke University) by Eileen R. Campbell-Reed, professor at Union Theological Seminary. She offers a guide, exploring 10 themes we can consider as we plan our next steps.

KINGDOM COME - 2023

KINGDOM COME - 2023

Every year the Church of England kicks off a campaign of mission-edged prayer called, Thy Kingdom Come. It is a global ecumenical prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray from Ascension to Pentecost for more people to come to know and experience Christ. This 'global wave of prayer' starts May 18 and runs until May 28.

This is a great way to energize long-time parishioners to PRAY, LISTEN and DISCERN how God is at work in our local neighbourhoods. There are a variety of resources, especially for community engagement, private or small group devotion and Sunday worship times. INCLUDES a free downloadable Novena Devotional, and MORE!

Re: Cemeteries

In order to protect our Parishes (Insurance-wise) going forward; it will be a wise investment of time for each Parish to provide me with a list of Cemeteries in the Parish. When responding with particulars, please include Parish Name and #, Cemetery Name and Civic address. If you would kindly respond to office@nspeidiocese.ca with the subject line “Parish Cemeteries” -all assistance is much appreciated.
