Youth & Family Ministry
National Youth Leaders Retreat These past few years have been difficult. Youth Leaders have pivoted, responded to the needs of our young people, journeyed with people as they struggled, been concerned with the mental health and physical well-being of the people we serve, wondered if what we are doing is enough, etc., etc… This list could go on and on. It has been a brutal time. In response to that, the Anglican Church of Canada’s youth committee is holding a national retreat for youth leaders – right here in our diocese!!! November 10-13, 2022 at the Tatamagouche Centre If you are a youth leader and are interested in attending, get in touch with Allie (acolp@nspeidiocese.ca). Costs associated with participation in the retreat would be covered, but space is limited, so don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Why Your Church's Story Matters and How to Tell ItTuesday, November 15th, 2022 AST Continuing Education Presents - A Stewardship Workshop with Gillian Doucet Campbell There is a culture shift happening in the Church. Many churches are struggling to see their relevance and purpose, let alone articulate these. Churches want to reach out to the community in mission but wonder who they are and what they have to offer. This shift has affected church attendance as well as the way church goers invest their time, talent, and treasure in their church. If we do not know who we are or why we matter, it is difficult to invest ourselves in the church or to communicate our mission to others. As Diana Butler Bass recently wrote, “When a major religious shift is underway, there’s nothing more important than to tell your story." Together let's explore why Butler Bass is right and how to discern your church's story. Learn why your mission, vision, and values are important to your church community and how to communicate these well. This workshop is geared towards clergy or lay leaders who wish to help their churches articulate their mission, vision, and values and to share that with others. This event will take place online-only, via Zoom. About the Speaker

MUSIKALISCHE EXEQUIEN by Heinrich SchützFor All The Saints Concert, directed by Paul Halley - Sunday, November 6, 2022 Capella Regalis is pleased to present Capella Regalis Men & Boys Choir and the Choir of the Cathedral Church of All Saints in a production of the Musikalische Exequien (translation: Funeral Music) by Heinrich Schütz, composed in 1635-1636, on November 6 at 4 pm. Directed by Paul Halley, this masterwork will comprise the centrepiece of the “For All the Saints” concert program at the Cathedral Church of All Saints that afternoon with guest instrumentalists and singers from the Canadian Early Music scene. This special Halifax performance takes place on the 350th anniversary - to the day - of Schütz's death on November 6, 1672. It is one of many musical events taking place across Canada this fall as part of SchützFest350, a coast-to-coast Canadian festival of music composed by influential Baroque composer Heinrich Schütz (1585—1672). The Musikalische Exequien is a masterpiece of the early Baroque period, and is the first Requiem ever composed in the German language. Schütz wrote the piece for the funeral of his friend, Henry II of Reuss, Count of Gera, and the music is regal, uplifting, and highly expressive of a hope for eternal life. The work comprises three movements scored for five-part to eight-part chorus alternating with small ensembles of solo voices and instruments. Schütz was a pioneering 17th-century composer and church musician revered for bringing the Italian music style of his teacher Gabrieli as well as Monteverdi to Germany and mixing it with that of his 16th-century predecessors in the Germanic style, a melding that was to influence the development of music in Germany for generations of composers to come, from J.S. Bach to Brahms. Seating available:
