Bishop's Office
Schedule Thursday, May 26th - King's Baccalaureate Service, Encaenia Ceremony and Dinner for the Honorary Degree Recipients Friday, May 27th - Appointments in office and the Ordination of Jerry Cavanaugh as a Vocational Deacon, 7:00 pm at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Hubbards. Sunday, May 29th – Parish Visits Monday, May 30th – Parish meetings Tuesday, May 31st – Meetings in office and Parish meetings Wednesday, June 1st – Monthly meeting with Youth and Family Ministry Coordinator and meetings in office. Please pray with the people of Texas Last week I attended the College for Bishops training program in Richmond, Virginia, and spent time with bishops from the Episcopal Church in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Mexico and Uruguay. During one mealtime conversation the issue of gun violence arose. One U.S. bishop shared experiences in her diocese and with the group, Bishops United Against Gun Violence (https://bishopsagainstgunviolence.org/). I shared our experiences in Nova Scotia with the Portapique shootings in April, 2020. I was grieved to learn yesterday of the most recent school shootings in Uvalde, Texas. The Bishop of West Texas (who I haven’t met) has issued a pastoral letter in response to the shootings (https://www.dwtx.org/blog/prayers-for-uvalde). Please join with me in prayer with him for the victims, their families, and the people of Uvalde, the Anglican community of St. Philip’s Church, and the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. We pray for those who grieve and all who are working for changes to gun control legislation. For more infomation visit: |
2022 Synod Update – REGISTRATION!
The Synod Arrangements Committee continues to plan for our time together in October. Registration will go LIVE very soon and all delegates, observers and co-opted members will be receiving an email within the next few days with the link to complete the online form. The 151st session of Synod will be held Friday, October 14th to Sunday, October 16th, at Dalhousie University, 6136 University Ave., Halifax, NS. A fee of $30 will be charged to all delegates to help offset the cost of meals and other refreshments provided at Synod. Attendees are also responsible for arranging their own accommodations. Due to the presence of students at Dalhousie in October, on-site residence accommodations are not available this year. This is the first increase in Synod fees in many years and intended only to help meet a percentage of costs. Please note, however, that the cost for delegates to attend Synod should not constitute a barrier to participation. If you or your parish is unable to fully fund the $30 registration fee and/or the cost of accommodation for delegates, please contact info.finance@nspeidiocese.ca to request financial assistance. Projects of any size are eligible to apply for funding, and it is especially important to note that there is no project that is too small to apply. SPRING & SUMMER BOOK CLUBJoin with friends and deep dive discussions on all things related to mission-shaped ministry! JUNE 9 - SPRING & SUMMER BOOK CLUB Registrations are rolling in for our book study, featuring a text about adaptive leadership. Hosted on Zoom, participants explore Susan Beaumont’s book, “How to Lead When You Don’t Know Where You’re Going: Leading in a Liminal Season.” “How do you lead an organization stuck between an ending and a new beginning - when the old way of doing things no longer works but a way forward is not yet clear? I call such in-between times liminal seasons - threshold times when the continuity of tradition disintegrates and uncertainty about the future fuels doubt and chaos. In a liminal season, it simply is not helpful to pretend we understand what needs to happen next. But leaders can still lead.” – Susan Beaumont This book study runs Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. over 4 weeks, starting June 9 (June 9, 16, 23 and 30). Facilitated by Ordinand Debbie Fice, this is a relaxed small group discussion. Anyone may join in! Each week we discuss one or two chapters. Purchase of book is required. Kindle $24.60; Paperback $38.00 https://www.amazon.ca/Lead-When-Where-Youre-Going/dp/1538127687/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= If you have not REGISTERED already, SIGN UP here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SummerBookClubs Got questions? Let’s send Indigenous youth to CLAY 2023
The Anglican Church Women Diocesan Board is branching out with our first-ever Peer-to-Peer (P2P) fundraiser (under the umbrella of the Anglican Foundation’s Say Yes! to Kids 2022 – Growing a brighter future, today) to bring Indigenous youth to CLAY 2023. It is one way we are living our 2022/23 theme of New and Wondrous Ways! The Board’s Annual Project for 2022/23, All In For Youth! will be “jump-started” by having the Board partner with Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth (CLAY) to help the August 2023 gathering be a much more inclusive event, with greatly increased participation from Indigenous youth across Canada. High costs of sending Indigenous youth have prevented their attendance and participation in the past. We have the power to change this by supporting a group of Indigenous youth to attend, and then enjoy and reflect on the CLAY experience together. Through our fundraising efforts we will send a clear message to the youngest members of our Indigenous church that their lives are important, that they matter, and that they are loved by their Anglican community. With God’s grace and your generosity, we can do this. Please give to this year’s Say Yes! to Kids campaign through our All In For Youth! Project. Contributions of whatever size are welcome: https://www.canadahelps.org/s/nbuFQD If you are more comfortable contributing via cheque, please make it payable to the Anglican Foundation, with All In For Youth in the memo line, addressed to the Anglican Foundation of Canada, 80 Hayden Street, Toronto, ON M4Y 3G2. Thank you!
