6-Minute Study #477Rediscovering Discipleship The word 'disciple' is being revived in congregations as church leaders adopt a new emphasis on nurturing people in living out their baptism. So much more than an ancient word in the New Testament, being a disciple is simply being an 'apprentice' of Jesus. It's about rediscovering the 'walk' and 'talk' of our faith. Read more in this article by Dr. John Bowen, who teaches and coaches leaders throughout the Anglican Church of Canada: Discipleship in Everyday Life: How does it work? For more infomation visit:

Flourishing FaithCommunion of Saints COMMUNION OF SAINTS
A great cloud of witnesses surrounds us—grounding our daily lives in the ancient and living call of God through Jesus. A flourishing church is rooted in a simple, life-giving truth: we do not walk the path of faith alone. Across time and space, Christians of old and newer times have modelled and greatly influenced us to live fully into God’s call. To anchor our reflection this All Saints Sunday, we lean into four pillars of our shared Anglican tradition: + Prayer & Spiritual Disciplines + Christian Education & Study + Worship & Sacramental Life + Giving, Serving & Stewarding
R O O T E D & R E A C H I N G • M I C R O - P R A C T I C E The Fellowship of the Spirit Focus: The Communion of Saints (Spiritual Connection) THE PRACTICE Acknowledge the unbroken spiritual connection uniting all members of the Body of Christ today. Take time this week to name those who have gone before us—teachers, mentors, and forebears—whose lives illustrated Christian principles and encouraged our faith. TRY THIS AT HOME Set aside 10 minutes of quiet reflection. Read through the names of mentors, family members, or historical figures who shaped your spiritual foundation. Offer a prayer of thanksgiving for their witness and for the grace that binds the living and the departed together. PARISH REFLECTION How might our daily choices change if we truly lived as though surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, treating our faith not as an isolated individual pursuit, but as a shared inheritance passed down through generations? What is one action our parish could take to connect with the next generation? “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses… let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” — Hebrews 12:1
30-SECOND PULPIT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Friends, as you settle into your pews today—All Saints Sunday—take a moment to look at the bulletin insert in your hands. Today we remember that we do not walk the path of faith alone. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses—from the saints of old to the quiet mentors, family members, and friends who shaped our own spiritual lives. Today’s insert features a special micro-practice to help us carry this gratitude home: a simple rhythm of reflection to name those who went before us and consider how we live out our own call. I encourage you to take it home, read through it, and let it deepen your walk with God this week. ++
Friends, connecting Sunday worship to daily life can be done in simple spiritual habits. This plug-and-play series provides short, actionable faith practices designed for immediate use across four key channels:
Each insert includes an optional 30-second pulpit announcement so the presider can introduce the practice on Sunday morning with zero advance preparation. New installments arrive in your inbox every Tuesday and will also appear weekly in The Net News. They are also posted on our Diocesan webpage as 'Downloads' - www.nspeidiocese.ca/pages/flourishing-faith Questions or ideas? Contact us directly at missiondirector@nspeidiocese.ca. Missional Imagination Conference 2027 Beyond survival, a call to missional faithfulness
Hosted on Zoom with Anglicans across Canada. REGISTRATION opens in mid-November. Many churches today feel as though they are simply trying to survive—managing declining resources, ageing congregations, and an increasingly complex world. Even for missioners and church planters working in these challenging contexts, the reality is demanding. But the gospel has never called us merely to survive. It calls us to be faithful disciples, attentive to where the Holy Spirit is already at work, and courageous enough to join in God's mission with imagination and hope. Join in practical teaching and sharing of inspiring real-life stories of missional communities. Watch for updates on our dynamic speaker line-up, panel discussions and more! "Mission is finding out what God is doing and joining in." – Rowan Williams The Missional Imagination Network is a partnership among the Anglican Dioceses of Fredericton, Kootenay, Niagara, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and Toronto. The Diocese of Niagara is the administrative sponsor. For more infomation visit:

Webinar: Ancient Wisdom, Modern MindReimagining the Church as Neighbour and Hospital - Friday, November 27, 2026 Churches are exhausted by reactive management, cycling through endless program trends while community trust and volunteer engagement continue to erode. In this free webinar, Ejay Tupe, Director of the Toronto Urban Missions Hub and PhD researcher in Contextual Theology, cuts through the noise by returning to the classical identities of the Church as a “good neighbour” and a “hospital.” Drawing on historical strategies and insights from cognitive sciences, this session examines how congregations can move past survival mode to build genuine resilience and a healthier internal culture. Leaders will explore actionable frameworks to anchor their ministry in time-honoured models that foster healing, safety, and effective local impact amidst rapid cultural transition. 50th Anniversary CelebrationCathedral Church of All Saints, 1340 Cathedral Lane, Halifax On November 30 at 6 pm our diocese will gather in All Saints Cathedral, Halifax, to celebrate with an exuberant service of Holy Eucharist the 50 anniversary of our Church ordaining women to the priesthood. And because that date also happens to be the 6th anniversary of Bishop Sandra's consecration as bishop, an event that had no real public celebration as it took place under Covid restrictions, we will also celebrate her ministry among us. A reception will precede the worship. We hope every parish in the diocese will join in preparing for this celebration. More information will be coming throughout the summer, but here are some of the ways to get involved:
We are making resources available to assist those who want to attend the national celebration in Victoria and need financial help to do so; please contact Lawrence Roche at financialcontroller@nspeidiocese.ca if you ware interested in going. And watch for further announcements about ways to participate in this grand celebration! |
