CHANGING CHURCH

The pandemic taught us that our parishes can listen to the Spirit, learn and adapt in order to do ministry in a constantly changing era. We are also discovering new ways to share leadership and reach out to our neighbours.

THANKS - VCM 2024

THANKS - VCM 2024

After 10 wonder-filled years, we hosted our final Vital Church Maritimes conference (May 9 to May 11).

Special thanks to all those who participated, presented and organized.
Resources, including exercises, models, liturgies and video recordings, will be shared on the Diocesan webpage shortly.

The Rev'd Canon Lisa Vaughn

The Rev'd Canon Lisa Vaughn

Recognizing the emerging ministry landscape that lies before us, and the ways God is calling us to respond creatively, faithfully, and courageously as disciples of Christ in this diocese, Bishop Sandra has expanded the scope of the Parish Vitality Coordinator’s portfolio. The Rev’d Canon Lisa Vaughn is now the Director of Mission and Ministry Development. Canon Lisa is part of the senior leadership team in our diocese and has taken on increasing responsibility to prepare and equip parishes and leaders for new forms of ministry, including Ecumenical Shared Ministry arrangements and Collaborative Ministry Arrangements. The redevelopment of her position recognizes this and supports our ongoing recognition of the need for transformative change in our ministry structures. The change in title and scope reflects what has already been happening on the ground under Canon Lisa’s leadership and is long overdue.

We thank her for her ongoing commitment and dedication and offer our congratulations as she officially takes on this new role.

Capella Regalis

Capella Regalis

seeking transportation assistance

Capella Regalis Choirs is a Canadian charity offering free choral music education in the Anglican choral tradition for interested boys and girls in the Halifax metro (HRM) area. They rehearse weekly at Saint Andrew’s United Church and regularly sing Choral Evensong and perform concerts at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Halifax.

As part of its efforts to be fully accessible to all children interested in joining the choirs, Capella Regalis runs a Transportation Program to help children who would not otherwise be able to participate get to and from weekly rehearsals. The need has recently grown, as more would-be choristers requiring transportation assistance express an interest in joining Capella Regalis! More drivers are needed to expand the Capella Regalis Transportation Program. Please consider whether this is a ministry you can offer.

The time commitment is 1 – 2 hours a week. The rehearsals are Tuesday and Friday afternoons at St. Andrew's United Church, corner of Coburg and Robie, so pick-up is in the late afternoon of these days in the HRM. A criminal record check and proof of $2 million liability insurance are required. Please feel free to e-mail Vanessa (vhalley@capellaregalis.com) to learn more about the Capella Regalis Transportation Program in support of a fully accessible choral program for boys and girls.

Refugee Sunday!

Refugee Sunday!

This January, our primate Archbishop Linda Nicholls, issued an invitation to dioceses and parishes across the country to mark a Refugee Sunday at some point in the lead up to World Refugee Day (June 20) or at some other time in the year.

Many parishes in our Diocese are currently participating in refugee sponsorship or have in the past.

We invite all parishes to consider marking Refugee Sunday sometime in the coming weeks. You can choose a Sunday that works best for you.

PWRDF has put together a list of resources that can help get you started https://pwrdf.org/raise-awareness-and-support-for-refugees/

We look forward to seeing how parishes throughout Nova Scotia and PEI mark this important day!
