6-Minute Study - #435Understanding Christian Giving "When we give, we’re giving back to God what is God’s in the first place. Good stewards are generous givers of time, talent and treasure, and want to ensure that any gift or resource is well protected, well managed, and used for things they support." - Jim Newman, Diocese of Niagara. Sometimes church leaders put too much emphasis on donations based on business reasons alone. In fact, Christians leaders - both laity and clergy - need to ensure financial stewardship initiatives are based on faith and God's call to serve the greater good. Read this article from the Lewis Center for Church Leadership by financial writer, Margaret Marcuson, called Being a Stewardship Leader Requires Clarity. For more infomation visit:

A Heartfelt Thank You — and a Call for Art to Brighten the Chapel
On behalf of the young people housed at the Nova Scotia Youth Centre, I would like to thank, from the bottom of my heart, the many kind souls who offered to purchase bibles and other materials. We now have a good supply of gospel resources. I am still looking for posters or prints to bring some life to the rather dark and dreary chapel. If, in the process of cleaning out closets or basements, anyone should discover some bright, welcoming, colourful, or meditative art work, please let me know. It does not have to be Christian or even religious, and it is best to avoid materials framed under glass, for safety reasons. With prayerful thanks, Ken. 1kenmacintosh@gmail.com For more infomation visit: http://nspeidiocese.ca/news/a-heartfelt-thank-you-and-a-call-for-art-to-brighten-the-chapel

Can’t Buy My Silence – Coming soona feature to understand better the misuse of NDAs APP will soon have a recording of the excellent misuse of NDAs workshop featured on-line on Sept. 18 and Oct. 9. So, stay tuned for future dates of this workshop. NDAs, the acronym for Non-Disclosure Agreements, are often used for purposes beyond their original intent (protection of intellectual property and trade secrets) and this reality is not sufficiently understood, nor is the trauma experienced by those coerced into signing an NDA when they have reported sexual misconduct, abuse, bullying, harassment, and discrimination fully appreciated. Our Diocesan Synod in May, Therefore We Have Hope, unanimously passed a resolution, presented by Anglicans Powering Potential, confirming that the Diocese would not misuse NDAs. A similar resolution is being debated nationally at the Council of General Synod (CoGS) and there is interest at CoGS in what the Diocese of NS & PEI experienced at its Diocesan Synod. As well, Can’t Buy My Silence is offering a confidential peer support group for individuals affected by the misuse of NDAs and their traumatic impacts, facilitated by Dr Angela Grace, clinical psychologist, someone with her own NDA experience. Dr. Angela Grace is featured on the misuse of NDAs recording. If you are interested in the confidential peer support group, or you know of someone who could benefit from this support, please e-mail: cjp2320@gmail.com for further information. |
