Halifax Pride Parade & Worship With Pride ServiceSaturday July 16th and Sunday July 17 - Saturday, July 16, 2022 Parade Please join the Proud Anglicans team at this year’s Halifax Pride Parade! We will be walking and will also have a half-ton truck for those who’d like to participate by riding. The parade route (2.5km) is different this year (https://www.halifaxpride.com/news/2022/4/28/new-parade-route-announced), and the parade begins at 12:00 noon. We will gather at the Citadel Community Center/High School grounds, entering at the checkpoint on Trollop Street by 11:00am, July 16th, when the street closures begin. There is no parking at the gathering grounds. You will need to know our “Parade Entry Number,” which will be sent to the organizers about 2 weeks before the parade date. We will communicate that number to you via as many sources as possible (email, Facebook, word of mouth, etc.). If you signal your interest in participating by sending an email to me (jane.magrath@gmail.com), I’ll be able to be in direct contact with you about the details. What to bring/wear: The parade runs rain or shine, so please keep an eye on the weather forecast and dress accordingly. Wear comfy shoes and bright clothing – friends from the National Proud Anglicans are encouraging clergy to wear dark clergy shirts with their white collars so that they are immediately recognizable as clergy to onlookers. Bring water and sunscreen and sunhats. Bring church banners and rainbow flags and supplies to decorate the truck. Worship With Pride Outdoor Service Please join us for a Special outdoor Pride Service on the steps of the Cathedral of All Saints. This service will begin at 4:00pm on Sunday July 17th, with the Rev’d Ann Turner delivering the homily. The service is designed by the WWP team. June is National Indigenous History MonthSend Indigenous youth to CLAY 2023 With your help, the Anglican Church Women Diocesan (NS & PEI) Board’s Annual Project for 2022/23, All In For Youth! will be “jump-started” by having the Board partner with Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth (CLAY) to help the August 2023 gathering be a much more inclusive event, with greatly increased participation from Indigenous youth across Canada. High costs of sending Indigenous youth have prevented their attendance and participation in the past. We have the power to change this, with God’s grace and your generosity! Petition to the Government of CanadaGuaranteed Livable Income A Guaranteed Livable Income (GLI) has been piloted elsewhere most notably in Manitoba where the subsequent analysis has shown substantial benefits for persons on low income and the community. A demonstration of GLI is planned in the PEI portion of our Diocese. An electronic petition has been established to request federal government collaboration. The petition closes for signature on July 2. The petition asks: 1. Begin immediate negotiations with the Government of P.E.I. for the development and implementation of a GLI project for P.E.I.; and 2. Ensure that all federal transfer payments that support provincially funded services and programs remain in place during these negotiations, regardless of any initiatives on a GLI that are implemented by the Government of P.E.I. You can sign the petition electronically at: https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-3987 Background on the PEI GLI demonstration - In November 2020, the Prince Edward Island Legislature Special Committee on Poverty tabled a report calling for the creation of a guaranteed livable income (GLI) programme for Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.). - This report has the support of all political parties in P.E.I. to establish a demonstration of a GLI project in that province. - PEI is developing their request to the Federal government for what they will require for establishing the province-wide GLI. Two GLI Bills (C – 223 and S – 233) are currently under debate in Parliament and both aim to develop policies establishing the procedure for the implementation of a GLI nation-wide. Thus it is very timely to send the PEI petition to the House to establish a GLI for that province which could set the pattern for a Federal program.
