 Welcome from Bishop Sue

God has great plans for renewing the people created in God’s image for relationship with God!  These seem to be activated in times of uncertainty and upheaval.  Think how the exodus of God’s people from slavery in Egypt changed their understanding of God’s wondrous works and faithfulness.  Think how the prophetic whispers brought hope to the exiles in despair.  Think how the events of the Cross and Resurrection brought new life out of what first seemed to be a disaster.  God’s great plans continue to become known to us, and we are called to discern God’s plans for us in our time.

The pioneers of the Anglican Church in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island were attentive to God’s grace at work in their day.  So we can celebrate 300 years of continuous Anglican worship!  We give thanks that we have been included in God’s great plans!

Since 2002, we have been evolving the plan to become Christ-centered, mission-minded, ministering communities of faith.  We have worked to embrace youth in all aspects of church life.  We have been working with a variety of strategies to build healthy congregations with strong clergy and lay leaders.  We have begun to streamline and lighten the governance structures of our diocese in order to better strengthen our parishes.

The times are still uncertain and life is still in upheaval.  Sometimes we feel as if we are wandering in the desert and we need to remind ourselves that God remains faithful.  Sometimes we wonder if our church is in exile, and we listen for that prophetic word of hope.  But whatever is happening, we seek to remain faithful disciples of Jesus Christ and faithful apostles of the Good News of God’s love, forgiveness and new life that is ours through the Cross and Resurrection.  With that new life, we seek to transform our broken world, and to bring to reality God’s Kingdom of justice and joy.

Welcome to the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island!
