SUMMER BOOK CLUB – EXPLORE MISSION
It’s time to kick back in a lawn chair and dive into an inspiring book. Then gather with other like-minded people and engage in lively and open discussion about it. Lay and clergy leaders are invited to join a summer book club as we read together a popular book on mission and then review its possible congregational applications. Here are some title options:
“Pioneering a New Future: A guide to shaping change and changing the shape of church,” by Canon Phil Potter, Archbishops’ Missioner and team leader of Fresh Expressions.
“Being Church. Doing Life. Creating gospel communities where life happens,” by The Rev’d. Dr. Michael Moynagh, Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, and researcher for Fresh Expressions UK.
“Divine Renovation: Bringing Your Parish From Maintenance to Mission.” This is a best-selling book by local author, Father James Mallon, with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Halifax/Yarmouth, former priest at Saint Benedict’s Parish, Halifax.
Over several weeks during the summer season, the group will discuss topics like church identity and purpose from maintenance to mission, nurturing disciples, starting new missional faith communities, and leadership development. Details for this summer book club will be announced, depending on the participant responses. Distance participants may be Skyped. ARE YOU INTERESTED? If so, contact the Parish Vitality Coordinator, Lisa Vaughn – [email protected] or 902-420-0717, ext. 1169. DEADLINE is May 28th.
