Lenten Evensongs @ All Saints' Cathedral
Wednesdays from 5pm-6pm
On Wednesdays during Lent, students of King’s College make a Lenten “pilgrimage” to the Cathedral for weekly Evensong, sung by the King’s Chapel Choir. Our Cathedral pilgrimage begins with Choral Evensong on Ash Wednesday including Allegri’s powerful setting of Psalm 51 and the receiving of Ashes. Our pilgrimage ends on Wednesday in Holy Week with the singing of the sublime service of Tenebrae that concludes with the quiet recitation of Psalm 51 in darkness. The four Evensongs in between are our manna for the journey. All are welcome to attend.
King’s Chaplain Gary Thorne gives a short meditation at each service:
28 Feb: Pharoah’s heart is hardened.
7 March: My manna has worms.
14 March: God’s backside.
21 March: The people murmured.
