The bishop of the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island is seeking a rector for the Parish of St. Peter’s, Birch Cove. This is a full time position.

St. Peter’s is conveniently located in Birch Cove, Halifax, Nova Scotia’s capital, just outside the downtown core, in a community known for having the feel of the country right in the city.  The church is on several city transit bus routes, close to universities, and is the only Anglican Church in the community of Birch Cove.  The surrounding area is undergoing rapid expansion including numerous new residential neighbourhoods, restaurants, and businesses. The church building and hall are in an excellent state of repair, and sit on a “prime” piece of real estate with room to grow if necessary.  Parking is ample, the church location is easily accessible, and the building itself is wheelchair-accessible.

The church’s mission statement-- “St. Peter’s is our spiritual home where we nurture our growth in faith.  By reaching out to others, together we explore new and dynamic opportunities to live Christian lives.”--is one that the congregation and ministries truly embrace.  The parish ministries are diverse, ranging from an active but small Sunday School, readers, a women’s guild, Eucharistic ministers, a choir, counters, a book club, to wardens, treasurer, and secretary, not to mention numerous committees which keep the parish running smoothly.  Accordingly, Outreach is varied and far-reaching, touching the lives of many in the community, both in practical ways (such as providing space for meetings and community functions) to spiritual, social, and charitable ways.

The church is said by many visitors to be a welcome and warm place to worship, with particular praise given for the small but impressive choir and music ministry.  Furthermore, it has been noted that the involvement of the church members themselves shows just how much the congregation cares and is open to active volunteering and commitment for a church family and home they feel strongly about.

The parish is financially sound and has been maintaining a stable congregation size, despite an aging population.  A housing allowance is provided to the rector.

The congregation of St. Peter’s is seeking an incumbent who is inspiring, compassionate, a spiritual leader, and who will encourage parishioners to do God’s will.  The parish recognises opportunities for growth by attracting new families and younger members, while maintaining the solid foundation of current church members.  The parish hopes to find an incumbent who is proactive, open-minded, with a sense of humour, who can relate to the young and the old.
