A charity that aims to advance Christianity with Anglican principles has announced a prize of £1,000 for the best 5000-word answer to ‘Why I am an Anglican and believe I shall remain so’.
St Boniface Trust has been concerned that yet more divisions are being created within both the Anglican and the Roman Catholic Churches. Its response is to run the competition which is open to both lay people and clergy of all ages.
In a statement a spokesperson for the Trust said, “The Trust feels that more attention needs to be paid to the understanding of Anglicanism as a distinctive witness in a time when its self understanding is at a low ebb.
“There is a degree of urgency and to further this understanding it is offering a prize of £1,000 which will go to the writer of an essay of about 5,000 words on the subject ‘Why I am an Anglican and believe I shall remain so’.
“Essay submissions by lay people and clergy of all ages must be received by 1 January 2012 and entries will be judged by 2 senior clergy. The result will be announced next Easter and the winning essay placed on our website together with other significant contributions.”
The St Boniface Trust was established following the closure in 1969 of St Boniface College, Warminster. Originally founded in 1860 as a missionary college, from 1948 to 1969 the college was used as the fourth year of training for ordination candidates who were graduates of King’s College London, England.
The Trust is a small charity “established to advance the Christian religion in accordance with the principles of the Anglican faith in all parts of the world, especially for the provision of education and training of clergy and lay people by the award of scholarships and maintenance allowance or any purpose concerning their spiritual or temporal welfare”.
It is governed by the St Boniface Council and its local management committee. The Trust also supports the work of the last warden of the college, Canon John Townroe, in his unique ministry of spiritual direction which he has carried, based in Warminster, since the college closure.
If you are seriously interested in entering please contact the Trust secretary for further details. secretary@stbonifacetrust.org.uk or write to David Prior, Secretary, St Boniface Trust 4 Cley View, Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 8NS, UK.

Getting Ready for BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY!
Last year St. Alban's, Dartmouth prepared some dialogues to use on the preceding Sundays to encourage people to invite others to Back to Church Sunday; happy to share with everyone in case they are helpful. They are linked here as a Word document which can be edited / tailored to suit local circumstances. They're not original works - they're cobbled together from resources found on the internet. There are 3 of them and two members of the Parish's Spiritual Development committee presented them each week - there were no rehearsals or props! Thank you Rev'd Frances Drolet-Smith and the folks at St. Alban's.

Diocesan Medavie Blue Cross Plan Participants: If you have Blue Cross coverage through the Diocese and have not received or read the email communication sent out on Tuesday, August 30th, please be alerted that there are changes which come into effect tomorrow, Thursday, September 1st, 2011. You will find the initial communication linked on the righ-hand side of the home page at: www.nspeidiocese.ca
Diocesan Website Redesign
Dear Readers and Users of the Diocesan website,
The Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island is undertaking to redesign its Diocesan website in light of:
While each Consultation identified the website as a key communication/resource/potential training tool, little time was available to itemize the ideas/visions/expectations for a newly-designed site.
So here is your chance! If you have an opinion to offer – whether you’re a novice user, geek or would-be designer – we’d like to hear it. We will also ask for input via direct contact with the attendees of the three Consultations, and notice in these weekly Wednesday editions of the NetNews. Please note: While the Anglican NetNews is resident on the Diocesan website, it is not feedback on the NetNews that we are primarily interest in. It is the entire Diocesan website, i.e. www.nspeidiocese.ca and linked pages. It would appear that some responses are in specific reference to the Anglican NetNews. If you have already completed the survey with the ANN in mind, you are welcome to do it again from the broader perspective.
Here is a link to a 6-question survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/diocesanwebsite
We hope you will consider completing it on-line. However, if you would rather provide input in a different format, please send your comments to: jconnors@nspeidiocese.ca or mail to:

There is usually NO Diocesan Time in July or August, so this is a special ADDITIONAL issue. Some have expressed concern that not everyone will have access to the electronic issue, but if we all do our part printing an issue here or there for only those who say they want it and have no other access...or if parishes print a copy and post to their bulletin board, everyone will have opportunity to read this first-time summer issue. Individuals you might know who simply have no means of accessing this issue may contact Jan Connors at the Synod Office at: (902) 420-0717

NEW ARCHIVES OFFICE WEEKLY HOURS – BEGINNING IN SEPTEMBER 2011: The Archives Office will be closed on Tuesdays and Fridays for one year, pending further announcements in Sept. 2012.
