The Maytree Foundation has just published the policy paper Charting
Prosperity: Practical Ideas for a Stronger Canada
. The paper documents
ideas for public investments that are grounded in the real life
experiences of some of the most vulnerable in our society. The
recommendations present three important “I”s of public policy: ideas,
instruments, and investments. They each identify a powerful idea to
improve the life of Canadians, the instruments which will be effective
in creating that improvement, and the investments that must be made to
operationalize the instruments. The paper can be viewed and downloaded

Atlantic Canada Food Justice Camp

A weekend of exploring food issues, faith and hunger from a local,
national and international perspective
Hosted by the Canadian Food Grains Bank

June 23-25, 2011
Big Lake Camp, Oxford Nova Scotia

The Food Justice Camp is a chance for those interested in food issues
to spend a few days together exploring food production, trade and
consumption from a faith perspective. The camp is organized by the
Canadian Foodgrains Bank, a partnership of Canadian churches working to end global hunger. We expect participants to include those
interested in how food is produced, how it moves around, and how it is used; we’ll go from manure tea to the politics of food. We’ll visit
local farms, food co-ops, etc, and we’ll learn from each other’s
experiences, striving to answer the questions “what would a just food
system look like, and how can we promote it?”

While our site visits will focus on local initiatives, our reflections
will include global realities.  How can this planet sustainably feed 6
½ billion people and growing? Why are there nearly one billion hungry
people in the world, and more than that overweight?  What kind of food system would be just for farmers?... for consumers?... for the Earth?  How then could we as people of faith eat?

Cost: Includes food and lodging for two nights and transportation for
field trips.

Early bird registration $85 until May 15th (and for students)
$100 (after May 15th)
$25 deposit by June 1st TODAY to secure your spot at the camp.

To learn more, see the proposed agenda, register, visit:
http://www.foodgrainsbank.ca/atlantic_food_justice_camp.aspx

For more information, contact: foodjustice@foodgrainsbank.ca or by
phoning our toll-free number 1-800-665-0377.

4th Annual Tournament

June 24, 2011

$50.00 Entry Fee

Over the past three years $12,000 has been raised for the David Reid Divinity fund.  We had over 60 participants last year and hope to have a similar turnout this year! The tournament this year will be Friday June 24, at Indian lake. There will again be a time for socializing and a silent auction with proceeds going to the Bursary fund.  If you have items to donate, please contact me or Jennifer.  This year the entry fee of $50 includes 18 holes of golf and a BBQ lunch (no extra charge for the BBQ ). Rental of pull carts or clubs would be extra and would need to be arranged at the course. A portion of the entry fee will go to the Fund with the balance paying the course costs.  You do NOT need to be a GOLFER!  Focus of the day is to enjoy one another’s company and have LOTS OF LAUGHS!!

Please reply to davidreidmemorialgolf@gmail.com to book your place in this years tournament.
