Bishop Sue and Bishop Ron extend an invitation for the last of three consultations that have been taking place this new year. These consultations are to help define the major areas of responsibility in the proposed new Diocesan structure. This last consultation will take place on Saturday, March 12th from 10am to 3pm. The consultations look at work now being done and new initiatives that the Diocese needs to undertake in these areas, how priorities can be set and how the work can be coordinated.

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE SYNOD OF THE DIOCESE OF NOVA SCOTIA AND PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND Notice is given that the 143rd Session of the Synod of the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island will be held at Dalhousie University, Student Union Building McInnes Room, 6136 University Avenue, Halifax, Nova Scotia, on May 26th (Thursday), 27th (Friday) and 28th (Saturday), 2011. Check-in and replacement delegate registration will take place on Thursday, May 26th, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon, Second Floor, near the entrance to the McInnes Room, Student Union Building. Local delegates are asked to check in early in order to make it easier for those coming from a distance to check-in. No lunch is provided on Thursday between registration, orientation and the beginning of Synod at 1:00 p.m.

We are a national Council of young people who are passionate about justice, faith and the work of PWRDF. We are young adults aged 16-30 from all across Canada, full of energy and passion, and we are looking to fill some vacancies on Council starting this Spring! Are you the kind of person who is responsible, committed to justice work, loves to travel, works well in a group setting and wants to make a difference? Do you know someone who is all of those things? Youth Council is made up of representatives from all 4 of the Ecclesiastical Provinces of the Anglican Church of Canada, as well as reps from PWRDF's partners, like the ELCIC (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada), Development and Peace, and the Student Christian Movement. It is a very diverse crowd, and we need to get even more diverse with fresh new faces. Currently we are seeking:
Members of Council are appointed for one term of two years, with the option to renew their term for another two. We meet face-to-face twice a year in locations all of over Canada, once in the fall and once in the spring. In between meetings we all work hard promoting the work of PWRDF where we live, helping to run local events and educate congregations. The Council has occasional teleconferences in between the face-to-face meetings. Many members of Council have had the opportunity to go on Partner visits to places like Burundi, Bangladesh and Brazil. Others have gone on to sit on the PWRDF Board of Directors. The Council has been represented at Justice Camps and youth ministry forums, and is building a very good reputation within Primate's Fund and the wider Anglican Church. It also goes without saying the Council is a lot of fun! Members really enjoy the time we spend together working hard towards goals and developing our shared passion, but we also have a great time when we're not working – you'll find yourself making fast friends with members. Keep in mind that your parishes may elect (or appoint) youth for the Synod coming up on May 26, 27, and 28. Youth who are communicant and regular attenders and at least 16 years old but not yet 22 years old at the time of the election are eligible to be youth delegates. LENTEN QUIET DAY - The Nova Scotia Board of Anglican Church Women will host a Lenten Quiet Day for all women on Saturday, March 26th, 2011 at St. Francis By The Lakes Anglican Church, 192 First Lake Drive, Lower Sackville. This AQuiet Day@ will be a time of reflection, meditation, fellowship, lunch and a service of Holy Eucharist. The Homilist will be Bishop Sue. Reflections will be given by students from the Atlantic School of Theology. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Program to begin at 10:00 a.m. Cost for the lunch - $8.00. A new bible study designed to help parish communities consider their gifts and vocation in God’s mission is now available.
Created by a small group of lay and clergy from the Diocese of Montreal as an initiative of the Ministry Action Plan (MAP) implementation team, this 5-week study uses the Marks of Mission along with biblical text to encourage us to “go out in the world to share God’s Good News, in action steeped in love”.

Call for Nominations: Lieutenant Governor’s Faith in Action Award 2011
Atlantic School of Theology is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the Lieutenant Governor’s Faith in Action Award 2011. This annual award continues Her Honour, the Honourable Mayann E. Francis's deep commitment to community development, by providing recognition to those whose religious faith has motivated them to significantly enrich the lives of Nova Scotians from the wider community of which they are a part. The award is open to people from any religious tradition. Recipients will be selected by a committee that includes representatives from Atlantic School of Theology and the Nova Scotia Interfaith Council. The 2011 award will be presented at AST convocation on April 30, 2011.

From one preacher to another...
These few lines are really an invitation to spend a few hours on Saturday March 5th thinking about the preaching ministry we all share. I find there is a difference between the demands of preaching as a full time priest in a parish and those of preaching from time to time as a Layreader. I have always felt that if we are asking men and women to take on the work of a Layreader, and if this work entails preaching from time to time, then there should be as many opportunities as possible given to them to do so, if only because the more frequently we preach the more we have a chance to develop our preaching.
I know that circumstances vary widely and that it is often not possible to give a Layreader regular, or something approaching regular, opportunities. All I am saying is that the more we can so the better for everyone.
All of this is by way of introducing a couple of thoughts about our Saturday. Rather than look at particular lections of the season (Lent and Easter) - as I'm going to do with clergy on the Monday - I think we will best use our time together on Saturday by thinking about preaching in general, about ways of doing it, about demands and challenges we face today as we try to communicate Christian faith. Perhaps we can also give a bit of time to sharing about what we find satisfying about preaching and what we find stressful.
Maybe we won't cover all this, but we'll try. Meanwhile if you wish, feel free to send me a few lines saying what you might hope for from this Saturday.

Re: Cancellation of Dartmouth Three Cantors Concert
With the deepest of regret and with concern for the safety of all persons and in consultation with the performers I, as chair of the Pastoral Ministry Committee, made the decision to cancel the concert which was to have been held on Wednesday, February 2. I wish to thank all people who bought tickets for themselves and for others as gifts – a tremendous disappointment for all concerned.
Each year our Pastoral Ministry Committee sponsors one event for the ‘Outreach Portion’ of our mandate and this was the event. The principal beneficiary of the event was designated The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) - a celebration of 50+ years of this program which began following and in response to the Springhill Mine disaster in the late 50’s. Christ Church shared in this venture of bringing the Three Cantors to our diocese with two other parishes – St. John’s Church, Lunenburg and the Parish of Three Harbours, Antigonish. You will appreciate that part of the ticket price was pre-designated for airfare, accommodations, meals and travel to the various concert venues which we still have an obligation to honour.
It was our hope that the concert would be rescheduled in the near future and thus all ticket holders were encouraged to keep their tickets. However, at the moment a concert will not in all probability happen this calendar year for the Cantors are completely booked for the remainder of 2011. For those who wish to consider the $20.00 as a donation we thank you and for those who would wish a 2011 Income Tax Receipt we request you to return your ticket(s) with your address to the parish office: Christ Church, P.O. Box 473, Stn M, Dartmouth, N.S. B2Y 3Y8.
After all expenses have been paid any remaining funds will be forwarded to PWRDF as was the original intention of the event.

The Maranatha Counselling Centre which, has for several years been working out of the basement of the Diocesan Centre has moved to Rev. Henry Sharam's home office at 63 Nappan Drive Lower Sackville. Maranatha continues to offer a premarriage course, (May13-14 and Oct 14-15) as advertised in the netnews, and individual therapy through the diocese EAP program and beyond.
