SOCIAL JUSTICE

You are invited to attend an information session for the Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) Program, organized by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) in collaboration with Nova Scotia Office of Immigration (NSOI).  The information sessions are meant to be an introduction to the PSR program for interested members of the public.

“I came to Canada as a refugee. Forty-five years later, for me, Canada is a refuge still”.

Joe Schlesinger (journalist, Member of the Order of Canada)

Opening Ceremonies, Vancouver 2010 Olympics

A refugee is a person who, "owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country (the formal definition of Convention Refugee according to article 1 A(2) of the 1951 United Nations Geneva Convention).

At the information session, you will hear from a representative of the Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP), stories from a formerly-sponsored refugee and a former sponsor, as well as have an opportunity to ask questions you may have about the PSR program.

The sessions will be held in Truro and Halifax:

TRURO, NS:  Lecture Room (3rd Floor) of the Colchester Historical Museum at
29 Young Street, Truro, NS.  January 26, 2011 5:00 – 7:00pm

HALIFAX, NS:  Ceremony Room (downstairs) of the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) office at 1741 Brunswick Street, Halifax, NS.  January 27, 2011 5:00 – 7:00pm

Everyone is welcome! No admission.  Please RSVP your participation by January 15, 2011 to Awan.Mach@cic.gc.ca or call (902) 426-3168.
