New bishop elected for diocese of Moosonee
MARITES N. SISON
STAFF WRITER
Apr 12, 2010 - Archdeacon Tom Corston, a senior aboriginal priest in the diocese of Algoma, is the new bishop of the diocese of Moosonee.
Bishop-elect Corston, who will be consecrated July 6, becomes the ninth bishop of the diocese and succeeds Archbishop Caleb Lawrence, who retired last January.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Bishop-elect Corston, who was elected on the fifth ballot at an electoral synod held April 10 at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Timmins, Ont. He was ordained in the Moosonee diocese in 1975 and spent his first 12 years in ministry there.
“I am fully aware of the problems, the concerns, the fears as well as the hopes and the riches of the church in the north,” Bishop-elect Corston said in a written response to a question put forward to nominees about why they were interested in being a bishop. Read more...

A prayer for General Synod
Loving and Gracious God,
you call us ever to new life in Jesus your Son.
As we reach out to feel your winds stirring in our lives,
be with all members of your beloved Church
as we prepare for General Synod in Halifax in June.
Grant us a spirit of generosity and excitement
as we prepare to gather together under your
gentle leadership, for yours is the course our souls
are charting, and we glorify you through your Son,
in the power of the Spirit, now and always.
Amen.

The Story of Bottled Water, released March 22, 2010, employs the Story of Stuff style to tell the fast-paced, fact-filled story of manufactured demand—how you get Americans to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. Over five minutes, the film explores the bottled water industry’s attacks on tap water and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the mountains of plastic waste it produces. The film concludes with a call to take back the tap, not only by making a personal commitment to avoid bottled water, but by supporting investments in clean, available tap water for all. Please watch this video posted at: www.storyofbottledwater.org

Alcoholism: it can tear a family apart. If someone in your family has a drinking problem, you can see what it’s doing to them, but you may not see what it’s doing to you. Fact is: you don’t have to drink to suffer from alcoholism. In al-anon, people learn how to deal with the drinking of someone else—often someone close.
