The Story of Bottled Water, released March 22, 2010, employs the Story of Stuff style to tell the fast-paced, fact-filled story of manufactured demand—how you get Americans to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. Over five minutes, the film explores the bottled water industry’s attacks on tap water and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the mountains of plastic waste it produces. The film concludes with a call to take back the tap, not only by making a personal commitment to avoid bottled water, but by supporting investments in clean, available tap water for all. Please watch this video posted at: www.storyofbottledwater.org
The Sanctuary Garden Project
On Sunday April 11th at 2 pm the Sanctuary Garden Project will host a fundraiser and information session at Brunswick Street United Church, 2107 Brunswick Street, Halifax. The speaker for this event will be Marjorie Willison, a frequent CBC contributor on gardening questions.
The Sanctuary Garden Project is a new and innovative approach to building community among and between marginalized peoples and the larger community of HRM. Residents at some of Halifax’s inner-city shelters turn out every weekend in the spring and summer, to plant beautiful flowers, shrubs and other wild life to beautify their surroundings around the shelter.
At this event there will be a free will offering that will help with the purchase of bulbs and gardening equipment.
Marjorie Willison will answer all of your questions on community gardens and how and what to plant in your garden as you look forward to spring 2011. Don’t miss it!
