New Anglican Military Ordinariate website

A new website describes the work and ministry of the Anglican Military Ordinariate (AMO) in Canada and throughout the world. The ordinariate includes all Anglicans who serve in the Canadian Forces, including regular and reserve forces in the air, maritime, or land force commands.

Although not a diocese, the ordinariate has its own Bishop Ordinary to the Canadian Forces, Peter Coffin. The ordinariate also includes 45 regular force chaplains and 35 reserve chaplains—totalling 22 per cent of the Canadian Forces chaplaincy.

The new AMO website includes a history of Canadian military chaplaincy, articles from the ordinariate's newsletters, and information about the Bishop Ordinary Trust, a foundation that supports the AMO’s ministry.

Bishop Coffin, who has served as Bishop Ordinary since 2004, commends the website as “a window into our life and ministry.” He encourages Canadian Anglicans to visit and learn about “another unique ministry of our beloved church….We are proud to be a part of the ministry of the Anglican Church of Canada and to be in touch and to be mutually encouraged is a blessing.”

Interested in learning more about the AMO, or sending a word of encouragement? Get in touch with the leaders online.

Ministry Sunday

January 24, 2010

Celebrating Ministry of all people

Celebrating Ministry of all ages

Celebrating Ministry of all forms

By virtue of our baptism we are all called to minister.  But, as in all callings whether in the church or medicine or law or wherever, we are called to not only minister but to do it the best we can.  On Ministry Sunday we celebrate theological education that is the cornerstone for deepening our faith and sharpening our abilities to be witnesses to the Light of Christ whether as a member of the congregation, a lay reader or clergy. Come let us lift up theological education; taste and see that it is good.

Committee on Ministry is organizing a list of guest preachers… who will be available to travel to Your parish …for this Sunday.

A VERY SPECIAL YEAR FOR THE PARISH OF ANNAPOLIS

The year 2010 is a very special one for the Parish of Annapolis and indeed for the whole Diocese. It is during this year that we commemorate 300 years of continuous Anglican worship in this place. Because of events that happened in Annapolis Royal, or Port Royal as it was named before that time, the Diocese in which we now live and worship came into being.

It is hard to imagine what it can have been like for those early people of our Anglican communion. They were few in number. The English were mostly soldiers drafted to fight in an ongoing series of battles far from their homeland. Around them in a land, vast and untamed were a small number of Acadian farmers and the Native peoples, who had hunted and fished here for hundreds of years. Far away in Europe the great powers made treaties and sent troops to enforce their rule and, as always happens, the ordinary people, soldiers, farmers and fishermen were caught in the middle. Money and provisions were scarce, tempers flared easily and there were deceptions, false promises and families divided.... 2009 Council of the North Prayer Cycle now available!

The Advent-Epiphany (November 29, 2009 – February 14, 2010) issue of Praying with our partners – a Canadian Supplement to the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, is now posted on the Anglican Church of Canada’s website for use in all parishes.

Please visit the website at http://www.anglican.ca/mission/resources/pwop/index.htm to download this resource.

We are sending this email to Dioceses, to ask that you share this information with your parishes.

We maintain a mailing list of about 70 Anglican parishes throughout the Church, who have requested hard copies because of their inability to access the Anglican Church of Canada’s website, and we do hope that parishes that are able to download Praying with our partners will find it useful to incorporate into their weekly intercessions.
