ANGLICAN NETNEWS '09
A 'light' version will be distributed on Wednesday, December 23rd, and there will be no NetNews on December 30th.

About 30 completed surveys have come in - a minimum of 100 are needed for reliable information. The deadline is December 31, because first talks about the nature of the 2011 budget begin in February. Cut more? Hold? Restore lost ministry? Diocesan Council is asking for guidance from Anglicans across the Diocese.
Consultation 2009 survey
What Do We Seek?
Say What You Think About Finances and Ministry in our Diocese.
How should we use money?
Last June, Diocesan Council discussed allotment rate and other financial factors, and made cuts of about $100,000 in ministry from the 2010 diocesan budget.
Council has asked for input from Anglicans all over the Diocese before thinking about budgets and ministry for 2011 and beyond.
Your opportunity to have a say as an active Anglican comes in the form of a survey. You can comment on the importance of the various central ministries, and offer suggestions. Your Rector or Priest-in-Charge will have copies, or print one out here: [pdf] [Word].
The deadline is December 31st, 2009.

New Anglican Military Ordinariate website
A new website describes the work and ministry of the Anglican Military Ordinariate (AMO) in Canada and throughout the world. The ordinariate includes all Anglicans who serve in the Canadian Forces, including regular and reserve forces in the air, maritime, or land force commands.
Although not a diocese, the ordinariate has its own Bishop Ordinary to the Canadian Forces, Peter Coffin. The ordinariate also includes 45 regular force chaplains and 35 reserve chaplains—totalling 22 per cent of the Canadian Forces chaplaincy.
The new AMO website includes a history of Canadian military chaplaincy, articles from the ordinariate's newsletters, and information about the Bishop Ordinary Trust, a foundation that supports the AMO’s ministry.
Bishop Coffin, who has served as Bishop Ordinary since 2004, commends the website as “a window into our life and ministry.” He encourages Canadian Anglicans to visit and learn about “another unique ministry of our beloved church….We are proud to be a part of the ministry of the Anglican Church of Canada and to be in touch and to be mutually encouraged is a blessing.”
Interested in learning more about the AMO, or sending a word of encouragement? Get in touch with the leaders online.
Ministry Sunday
January 24, 2010
Celebrating Ministry of all people
Celebrating Ministry of all ages
Celebrating Ministry of all forms
By virtue of our baptism we are all called to minister. But, as in all callings whether in the church or medicine or law or wherever, we are called to not only minister but to do it the best we can. On Ministry Sunday we celebrate theological education that is the cornerstone for deepening our faith and sharpening our abilities to be witnesses to the Light of Christ whether as a member of the congregation, a lay reader or clergy. Come let us lift up theological education; taste and see that it is good.
Committee on Ministry is organizing a list of guest preachers… who will be available to travel to Your parish …for this Sunday.

A VERY SPECIAL YEAR FOR THE PARISH OF ANNAPOLIS
The year 2010 is a very special one for the Parish of Annapolis and indeed for the whole Diocese. It is during this year that we commemorate 300 years of continuous Anglican worship in this place. Because of events that happened in Annapolis Royal, or Port Royal as it was named before that time, the Diocese in which we now live and worship came into being.
It is hard to imagine what it can have been like for those early people of our Anglican communion. They were few in number. The English were mostly soldiers drafted to fight in an ongoing series of battles far from their homeland. Around them in a land, vast and untamed were a small number of Acadian farmers and the Native peoples, who had hunted and fished here for hundreds of years. Far away in Europe the great powers made treaties and sent troops to enforce their rule and, as always happens, the ordinary people, soldiers, farmers and fishermen were caught in the middle. Money and provisions were scarce, tempers flared easily and there were deceptions, false promises and families divided.... Read the entire article here at: http://nspeidiocese.ca/2010/annapolis.htm

The Advent-Epiphany (November 29, 2009 – February 14, 2010) issue of Praying with our partners – a Canadian Supplement to the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, is now posted on the Anglican Church of Canada’s website for use in all parishes.
Please visit the website at http://www.anglican.ca/mission/resources/pwop/index.htm to download this resource.
We are sending this email to Dioceses, to ask that you share this information with your parishes.
We maintain a mailing list of about 70 Anglican parishes throughout the Church, who have requested hard copies because of their inability to access the Anglican Church of Canada’s website, and we do hope that parishes that are able to download Praying with our partners will find it useful to incorporate into their weekly intercessions.

New CNIB store sells products that increase independence, safety
More than 30,000 Nova Scotians who have significant vision loss will benefit from products sold at CNIB’s new consumer products and assistive technology store in Halifax, which officially opened today.
Shop CNIB is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays; it is located at 2717 Gladstone Street, suite 112.
“Just in time for the gift-giving season, the store features products that can help blind and partially sighted people to confidently enjoy daily activities and pursue new skills and opportunities,” said Duncan Williams, CNIB’s executive director for the Maritime provinces.
Products include devices that tell when to stop pouring liquid into a cup, what time it is, who is calling, or what medication you’re about to take. Another product helps prevent falls during icy winter weather.
In a comparison with sighted people of the same age, people who are blind or partially sighted have two to five times as much difficulty with daily living, a greater number of medication errors and are at twice the risk of falling.
“If family members and loved ones are looking for something special to buy for someone who is blind or partially sighted, our shop features the top 70 best-selling products, including magnifiers, tactile watches, extra-long oven mitts and other devices that help improve independence and safety for persons with vision loss,” Mr. Williams said. “We also have a selection of leisure products, including a braille Monopoly game, large print and braille playing cards, large print bingo and a cribbage board – great gifts for family game night.”
Nova Scotia facts and stats about vision loss:
· 30,000 Nova Scotians have significant vision loss (630 are under 15, 12,400 are over 65)
· At least 60,000 residents will have significant vision loss by 2031
· 38,000 residents have some form of AMD
· 7,800 residents have some form of glaucoma
· 15,000 residents have some form of diabetic retinopathy
· 85,000 residents have some form of cataracts
Proceeds from CNIB’s consumer products and assistive technology store support programs and services that benefit Nova Scotians who are blind or partially sighted.
Shop CNIB products are also available by calling 1.866.659.1843 or visit: http://webstore.cnib.ca
CNIB is a nationwide, community-based, registered charity committed to public education, research and the vision health of all Canadians. CNIB provides the services and support necessary to enjoy a good quality of life while living with vision loss.
