About 30 completed surveys have come in - a minimum of 100 are needed for reliable information. The deadline is December 31, because first talks about the nature of the 2011 budget begin in February. Cut more? Hold? Restore lost ministry? Diocesan Council is asking for guidance from Anglicans across the Diocese.
Consultation 2009 survey
What Do We Seek?
Say What You Think About Finances and Ministry in our Diocese.
How should we use money?
Last June, Diocesan Council discussed allotment rate and other financial factors, and made cuts of about $100,000 in ministry from the 2010 diocesan budget.
Council has asked for input from Anglicans all over the Diocese before thinking about budgets and ministry for 2011 and beyond.
Your opportunity to have a say as an active Anglican comes in the form of a survey. You can comment on the importance of the various central ministries, and offer suggestions. Your Rector or Priest-in-Charge will have copies, or print one out here: [pdf] [Word].
The deadline is December 31st, 2009.

Ministry Sunday
January 24, 2010
Celebrating Ministry of all people
Celebrating Ministry of all ages
Celebrating Ministry of all forms
By virtue of our baptism we are all called to minister. But, as in all callings whether in the church or medicine or law or wherever, we are called to not only minister but to do it the best we can. On Ministry Sunday we celebrate theological education that is the cornerstone for deepening our faith and sharpening our abilities to be witnesses to the Light of Christ whether as a member of the congregation, a lay reader or clergy. Come let us lift up theological education; taste and see that it is good.
Committee on Ministry is organizing a list of guest preachers… who will be available to travel to Your parish …for this Sunday.

A VERY SPECIAL YEAR FOR THE PARISH OF ANNAPOLIS
The year 2010 is a very special one for the Parish of Annapolis and indeed for the whole Diocese. It is during this year that we commemorate 300 years of continuous Anglican worship in this place. Because of events that happened in Annapolis Royal, or Port Royal as it was named before that time, the Diocese in which we now live and worship came into being.
It is hard to imagine what it can have been like for those early people of our Anglican communion. They were few in number. The English were mostly soldiers drafted to fight in an ongoing series of battles far from their homeland. Around them in a land, vast and untamed were a small number of Acadian farmers and the Native peoples, who had hunted and fished here for hundreds of years. Far away in Europe the great powers made treaties and sent troops to enforce their rule and, as always happens, the ordinary people, soldiers, farmers and fishermen were caught in the middle. Money and provisions were scarce, tempers flared easily and there were deceptions, false promises and families divided.... Read the entire article here at: http://nspeidiocese.ca/2010/annapolis.htm

The Advent-Epiphany (November 29, 2009 – February 14, 2010) issue of Praying with our partners – a Canadian Supplement to the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, is now posted on the Anglican Church of Canada’s website for use in all parishes.
Please visit the website at http://www.anglican.ca/mission/resources/pwop/index.htm to download this resource.
We are sending this email to Dioceses, to ask that you share this information with your parishes.
We maintain a mailing list of about 70 Anglican parishes throughout the Church, who have requested hard copies because of their inability to access the Anglican Church of Canada’s website, and we do hope that parishes that are able to download Praying with our partners will find it useful to incorporate into their weekly intercessions.

THE ANGLICAN FELLOWSHIP OF PRAYER
May God be gracious to us and bless us
May God’s face shine upon us
May God’s ways be known on earth.
May the nations be glad and sing for joy...
May the peoples praise you, O God...
For the earth has yielded its harvest;
Our God has blessed us.
May God bless us still, and
May we give thanks to our God.Amen

KAIROS Call to Copenhagen—Ring Your Church Bells!
The international climate change talks are set to start in Copenhagen
in December, and Earth's future is at stake. It's time for us to do
everything we can to ensure that Canada takes a progressive stance at
these negotiations, and that the world community emerges from
Copenhagen with a just, binding, science-based climate treaty.
Brothers and sisters around the globe are already experiencing the
devastating effects of climate injustice—show your solidarity with
God's peoples and the Earth!
What can you do? RING YOUR BELLS!
KAIROS is asking every church in the country to ring its church bells
350 times for climate justice on Sunday December 13, 2009 at 3:00pm
(your local time zone). Sunday December 13 is a day of action for
churches around the world. A global bell ringing action is timed to
coincide with an ecumenical service that the World Council of Churches
is coordinating at the height of the talks in Copenhagen. When it ends
at 3:00 pm, churches all over Denmark will ring their bells.
If churches around the world ring their bells at 3:00 pm local time,
we'll have a 24 hour chain of bells! Can't manage at 3:00? How about
when church ends? That way your entire church community can be
involved!
Why church bells? Why 350 times? For answers to these questions and
details, go to
http://www.kairoscanada.org/en/ecojustice/climate-change/copenhagen-
2009/ring-350-for-copenhagen/

If your meeting isn't listed, please have the committee/subcommittee chairperson book space with the Cathedral Office (423-6002; cathedralchurch@eastlink.ca) AND email the Synod Office at: office@nspeidiocese.ca with details to have it added to this calendar.
The team at Clean Nova Scotia has the pleasure of working with Nova Scotia Power in running an Energy Efficiency Lighting Program. This program consists of having trained technicians traveling to businesses throughout Nova Scotia replacing regular incandescent bulbs with new CFLs, and incandescents in Exits with LED bulbs to save energy. The program is sponsored by Nova Scotia Power. As it is an environmental program with its goal to reduce our energy consumption as a province, it is completely free with no cost to you at all.
Clean Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1988. Our staff is guided by a Board of Directors with representation from the realms of business, academics, government, and our community at large. Over the last 20 years, the organization has evolved into an effective, high profile institution with a broad mandate to work with individuals, government, business, and communities to improve our environment. The Energy Efficiency Lighting program is one of the many great programs that Clean Nova Scotia is a part of.
We are asking if you are interested in getting your church involved in this great opportunity. There is no obligation; it is simply an opportunity for you to reduce the amount of energy use and operating costs. The rectory also qualifies for the installation if it is owned by the church.
The programme has been running since July and ends on December 18th, so if you would like to make an appointment, call me as soon as possible to make sure we are able to accommodate you.
