Seeking a Musical Director/Organist
St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Lower Sackville is seeking an enthusiastic musical director. Our parish vision is to broaden our music ministry to include contemporary and traditional music. We have two services with music: a contemporary Eucharist with our youth group and Sunday School at 9:15 in the Parish Hall and a more formal Eucharist with a small choir in the church at 11:00 am. Our musical equipment includes a Rodgers Model 441 electric organ in the church and a Roland HP 203 Digital Piano and audio-video facilities in our hall. We welcome applicants who would enjoy the challenge of building a new music program and enriching the current program with new and creative ways of doing music ministry.

Consultation 2009 survey
What Do We Seek?
Say What You Think About Finances and Ministry in our Diocese
How should we use money?
Last June, Diocesan Council discussed allotment rate and other financial factors, and made cuts of about $100,000 in ministry from the 2010 diocesan budget.
Council has asked for input from Anglicans all over the Diocese before thinking about budgets and ministry for 2011 and beyond.
Your opportunity to have a say as an active Anglican comes in the form of a survey. You can comment on the importance of the various central ministries, and offer suggestions. Your Rector or Priest-in-Charge will have copies, or print one out here: [pdf] [Word].
The deadline is December 31st, 2009.

A really neat Website
for youth and youth leaders
Just generation is the official youth website of the Primates World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF). It is a site for Christian youth (16-30) who want to get active in the struggle for just development and is made up of youth and young adults from across Canada.
Here is a site packed with great information, resources, articles, and news reports related to local and global social and eco justice issues. There are suggestions and opportunities to get young people involved and this site is updated often.
And that's not all... via a link from the site, youth can access a weekly pod cast"The Looking Glass" -- 30-minutes of faith filled justice-talk and new tunes. It engages with artists, thinkers, theologians, musicians, and local and global activists concerning issues of development, justice, peace, the environment, pop culture and Christian spirituality.

A bountiful breakfast ($6/person) will be held in the hall just behind the Church from 7:30 to 10:00, with Eucharist to follow at 11:00 Even if you can't join us, please keep us in prayer!!
A VERY SPECIAL YEAR FOR THE PARISH OF ANNAPOLIS
The year 2010 is a very special one for the Parish of Annapolis and indeed for the whole Diocese. It is during this year that we commemorate 300 years of continuous Anglican worship in this place. Because of events that happened in Annapolis Royal, or Port Royal as it was named before that time, the Diocese in which we now live and worship came into being.
It is hard to imagine what it can have been like for those early people of our Anglican communion. They were few in number. The English were mostly soldiers drafted to fight in an ongoing series of battles far from their homeland. Around them in a land, vast and untamed were a small number of Acadian farmers and the Native peoples, who had hunted and fished here for hundreds of years. Far away in Europe the great powers made treaties and sent troops to enforce their rule and, as always happens, the ordinary people, soldiers, farmers and fishermen were caught in the middle. Money and provisions were scarce, tempers flared easily and there were deceptions, false promises and families divided.... Read the entire article here at: http://nspeidiocese.ca/2010/annapolis.htm

A Study in Conflict
Photos and talk by Dr. Zalman Amit
Friday, November 27
12:15 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Talk begins at 12:30, followed by Q&A)
AST Library
Light lunch available
Presentation Description (from the artist)
The photographs forming the basis of this presentation were taken over a period of two years in the Palestinian occupied territories. The period under study was the latter part of the Second Intifada (2003-2005).
The project was a two fold affair. On one hand I intended to document life under a military occupation with all its cruelty and adversity. However, while concentrating on the job I began to realize that there is a great deal of beauty even in adversity and I became committed to the idea of documenting and recording it as well.
My observations revealed that as time progresses people involved in the conflict undergo changes driven by the role they play in the conflict. On one hand, the soldiers enforcing the occupation become less and less compassionate. On the other hand, as a great surprise to me, the people who are the subjects of the occupation seem to become more empathic and humane -- while at the same time becoming more angry.
Not only the people undergo changes in this conflict; the land itself changes. The occupation inflicts significant wounds on the land and in the latter part of the project I tried to document this phenomenon as well.
Thus, this presentation is dedicated to these aspects of a very difficult confrontation between two peoples.
Dr. Zalman Amit is an artist, retired scientist (Concordia University) and avid peace activist. He lives in Kingsburg, Nova Scotia. He has works on display at the Atlantic School of Theology Art Gallery in conjunction with the current exhibition, Ecumenical Vessel, which runs until November 27, 2009. For further information, please see the AST website www.astheology.ns.ca/astarts/.

Atlantic School of Theology is pleased to announce a series of concerts celebrating sacred music. The 2009/10 season features outstanding professional musicians from the region and beyond. As a leader in theological education, AST will be exploring the ways in which music and faith inform and enrich each other. Offering a new dimension in arts programming, each performance will reflect on themes of importance to religious thought and focus on the important but often unnoticed ways in which the arts and religious traditions intersect to contribute to and enrich our lives.
All performances take place on campus in the St. Columba Chapel, a venue that provides a wonderful acoustical experience in a warm and intimate environment.
The Mass for Organ--Friday, November 20--8:00 pm
The organ is well known today in its role in church music. The wider role of the organ still has roots in church music. This concert will explore, through the work of Haydn and Mozart, the close connection between the sacred and secular roles of the organ.
This first concert in the series features performances by the Chapel Choir of the University of King’s College, with Paul Halley, Organist and Director, and musicians from Symphony Nova Scotia. View the promotional poster online: http://www.astheology.ns.ca/UpcomingEvents.html.
Tickets are available at the door 30 minutes prior to performances, and are available at very reasonable prices: adults $20, seniors $10, and students $5.

Giving Brings Joy
“…remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’”
(Acts 20:35).
Your life becomes joyful, fulfilling, and purposeful as you live in God’s calling. Joy is experienced in the act of giving, but even more so in the alignment of your heart with God’s will.
As generosity comes into your heart, it blesses you in ways you know in the moment, in ways you recognize over a lifetime, and in ways that are revealed to you only in eternity. Generosity enables you to live in the joy of a “life that is truly life.”

Mr. Herlindo Hernandez Pu is a coffee and macadamia nut farmer from the San Salvador Xolwitz cooperative in Retalhuleu, Guatemala. He is with the Campesino Committee of the Highlands (CCDA) in Guatemala.
WHAT?
A new film, Madre Tierra, highlights the work of the CCDA
For centuries, the distribution of land has been at the centre of Guatemala's violent story. Guatemala has the worst land distribution in the Americas, and campesino farmers struggling to feed their families are facing greater obstacles to gaining access to a plot of land. "Madre Tierra" follows one campesino organization, the Campesino Committee of the highlands (CCDA), as they push for getting land into the hands of campesino families.
