Find help and healing for the hurt of separation and divorce or the break-up of a relationship. DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one

of life’s most difficult experiences. Don’t go through separation or divorce alone.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 8th at 7 p.m. in St. Timothy’s Hall, this group meets Tuesday nights weekly to help participants face these challenges and move toward rebuilding their lives.

Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements: a video teaching seminar
with experts, including top experts on divorce and recovery subjects; And a
support group with focus including discussing what was presented in the
seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members. Open to everyone
in the community (whether they were married or not). Supported by Mental Health
Foundation of Nova Scotia.  For more information:  Cheryl Rafuse, 852-3859 or

On September 12, 2009

10:00 AM – noon

at Trinity Church, 321 Main Ave, Halifax

Essentials Nova Scotia invites you to come to hear about

“The Agape Project”

with guest speakers Rev. David Harris and/or Mr. Michael Edward

The following descriptions taken from other sources may help you understand what will be presented during the morning.

Led by the Rev. David Harris and others, this is a mind-blowing project aimed at communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially to people under 40. Huge effort and expertise are being poured into this project.

This is a new, practical initiative to promote the understanding and exploration of authentically Anglican Christianity in ways that particularly reach, recruit and deploy younger Anglicans across the country through networking and personal encounter.

While promoted and supported by the Federation, the proposed Anglican Project would

operate at arm’s length from it, with an independent board whose membership would reflect the modes, channels and expertise of constituencies such as recent graduates and “Generation X,” melded with the experience of seasoned advisors and regional leaders.

Light lunch and time for fellowship will follow the meeting.

PERSPECTIVES

STUDY PROGRAM

 Begins Sept. 9th 2009

Do you know what God is doing in the

new millennium?

("Perspectives is absolutely essential for anyone interested in missions!") GEORGE VERWER, Operation Mobilization

What is Perspectives?

Perspectives Study Program on the World Christian Movement is a dynamic 15-week discipleship course taught by a variety of veteran missionaries, influential strategists and professors, each an expert in their respective area.

Discover what God is doing around the world and consider your part in His purposes.  Perspectives Study Program will help you understand God’s plan for our world – and possibly for your life – as you explore the following topics:

It is Biblical  What does God’s Word reveal about His plan?

Discover God’s often overlooked yet unchanging purpose as it’s revealed from Genesis to Revelation.

It is Historical  How has God been working throughout history?

You’ll be challenged and encouraged as you learn about the unlikely people and surprising events God has used throughout history in the spread of the Gospel.

It is Cultural  How does culture fit in God’s global plan?

Do missionaries destroy or enhance cultures when they plant churches? Learn the keys for communicating the Gospel to people with different world views and cultures.

It is Strategic  What role could you and your church play?

What are ‘unreached people groups’ and why are they so important in the completion of God’s eternal purpose?

Perspectives Study Program is for…

… You!

SOCIAL JUSTICE

The Anglican Church of Canada

Justice Camp offered rich insights into poverty

Ali Symons, Anglican Church of Canada

August 26, 2009 - It maybe looked like a normal summer baseball game on Halifax’s grassy commons: people lobbing the ball and laughing, with a barbeque going on the side. But for those attending Justice Camp 2009, it was a holy moment, as they played alongside low-income people for an afternoon of fun.

It became the metaphor for what we learned,” said the Rev. Maylanne Maybee, General Synod's ecojustice coordinator, who attended. “It became a level playing field, where there was no donor and recipient, there was no rich and poor. We were just people playing ball and eating hotdogs.

This was one of many moments of “Finding Abundance,” the theme of Justice Camp, a week of hands-on learning about poverty held Aug. 9 to 15 in the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. More than 60 participants—Anglicans and otherwise, old and young, from around and afar—gathered in Halifax, then small immersion groups sp read out across the diocese to explore issues including urban poverty, cultural poverty, and disabled and marginalized groups.

Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are have-not provinces, yet the richness of their sense of community, sense of place, sense of history and care for others—that really came through,” said Ms. Maybee.

She said this Justice Camp offered insights about “friendship” as a third way of walking with the poor, beyond giving charity or fighting for justice.

Justice Camps are an initiative of the Anglican Church of Canada’s Partners in Mission and Ecojustice Committee, but the camp is organized by a dynamic—and decentralized—local coalition, led by co-chairs Katie Puxley and Andy Sharon, who often set up meetings on Skype. Ms. Maybee said communications vehicles at this Justice Camp offered a “huge breakthrough” and noted that several campers blogged, including Murray MacAdam, the Diocese of Toronto’s social justice and advocacy consultant.

The 2009 camp also welcomed an international visitor for the first time: the Rev. Francisco da Silva from the Episcopal Church of Brazil, who offered insights on poverty from his own context.

The Justice Camp momentum continues. Previous camps included Environment Justice Camp (Victoria, 2007); Advocacy Justice Camp (Ottawa, 2006); and Food Justice Camp (Winnipeg, 2005). The Diocese of Niagara hosts next, addressing “Live the change you want to see,” from May 9 to 14, 2010. For more information, contact Christyn Perkons, camp project manager by phone at (905) 527-1316 ext. 460 or email.
