It's a wrap!  The Amazin’ Amazon Vacation Bible Days; Discovering Jesus Through Jungle Journeys wrapped up July 17th. We enjoyed the company of all our attendees which included our youngest – Kyle Belander (a toddler!) and birthday girl Mary Samms (7 on July 15th). To all of our children, “We REALLY your spirit, your company , your questions, your energy, your ideas and especially your enthusiasm.”
Our Intergenerational Team including Facilitator Karie Lynn “Chibi" Maloney, Emma “Cyan" Cleveland, Vanessa "JoJo Jungle Jane" Trivett Burns, Jennifer "Tar Tar" Fleming, Maddi "Pinki" Tench, and Jeff "Zeez" Borgel, and junior guides: Jada Rose Fraser and Danielle and Robert Pemberton -- were a real pleasure to be connected with. Their involvement with ideas, relationship building, education, activities and crafts, worship and music, was much appreciated and even better,
much enjoyed.
Thank You to our regular volunteers: Susan Crouse, Gwen Belanger, Betty Muldoon and DJ Poworozyk.. What a treasure having two photographers: Gwen Belanger and Nancy Lee Mason – we look forward to ‘Vacation Bible Days Sunday” in September when we will display our photos and other keepsake memories.

Absolutely not least, thank you to St. Margaret Rector Archdeacon Dianne for her spiritual leadership, encouragement, freedom and sense of humour, to parishioners who donated snacks, props, money for whatever we needed, transportation for supplies and environmental props, to Denine Mitchell in  our office for her cheer and support, to Sunday School (Vanessa) and Beaver’s Club (Annette and Ann) for donation of supplies and to David Bradley of St. Marks for helping us with our Jesus in the Jungle WrapUp Party. Community thanks to AST for borrow of greenery for the jungle, Brian Dewar, MLS, Dalhousie for implementing the software we used for our imagery and curriculum, Tami Spires, UCC, AST for donation of most of our craft supplies and props, and to AST students/spouses Ann Wildish, Percy Crewe, and Carol Guillard for all sorts of miscellaneous errands and help.

Our vbs meetings never felt like work thanks to great personalities and spirit. On a special note, Jen (“Tar Tar” ) needed volunteer hours towards her curriculum and she more than met this with the preparation time and the actual bible days. “Tar Tar” even personally crafted the puppets for each day’s instruction. “Two Thumbs Up, Kiddo!!”  Hope You All Have a Great Rest of the Summer, Karie Lynn.

2010 Stoles - Those interested in ordering a stole must do so before October 30th by contacting Davena Davis.  The cost is $50 each - cash of cheque payable to the "Diocese of NS & PEI".  The stoles will be ready for the 2010 Service but an exact date is unknown at this time.

Diocesan Pandemic Task Force to meet during the summer

Bishop Moxley has called for interested individuals to work on a pandemic plan for the Diocese. In response to a call for interested parties, seven individuals have stepped forward to assist in the preparation of the necessary materials and plans for the Diocese. The Bishop has asked Patrick Hartling, the Diocesan HR Advisor and a seasoned Human Resources professional, and Gordon Redden, the Diocesan Executive Director, to Co Chair this Task Force.

In view of the apparent possibilities for the need for these policies and procedures, she has asked the Task Force to present her with a report in early September.  The Task Force will be meeting and working during the summer, with a view to presenting ideas and seeking input from the Diocese during that period. Anyone wishing to suggest items or materials or resources for consideration of the Task Force can write the Co -Chairs c/o the Diocesan Executive Director.

Thanks very much,

Co- Chairs Redden and Hartling

PERSPECTIVES

STUDY PROGRAM

 Begins Sept. 9th 2009

Do you know what God is doing in the

new millennium?

("Perspectives is absolutely essential for anyone interested in missions!") GEORGE VERWER, Operation Mobilization

What is Perspectives?

Perspectives Study Program on the World Christian Movement is a dynamic 15-week discipleship course taught by a variety of veteran missionaries, influential strategists and professors, each an expert in their respective area.

Discover what God is doing around the world and consider your part in His purposes.  Perspectives Study Program will help you understand God’s plan for our world – and possibly for your life – as you explore the following topics:

It is Biblical  What does God’s Word reveal about His plan?

Discover God’s often overlooked yet unchanging purpose as it’s revealed from Genesis to Revelation.

It is Historical  How has God been working throughout history?

You’ll be challenged and encouraged as you learn about the unlikely people and surprising events God has used throughout history in the spread of the Gospel.

It is Cultural  How does culture fit in God’s global plan?

Do missionaries destroy or enhance cultures when they plant churches? Learn the keys for communicating the Gospel to people with different world views and cultures.

It is Strategic  What role could you and your church play?

What are ‘unreached people groups’ and why are they so important in the completion of God’s eternal purpose?

Perspectives Study Program is for…

… You!

A Note from St John-in-the-Wilderness, New Germany, NS

Dear Friends,

In 1844. Bishop John Inglis wrote in his journal, “Tuesday, July 23rd. After some heavy showers, we(the Reverends Philip Filleul & James Cochran) drove three miles to the church, or rather Chapel which is in the Parish of Lunenburg, and found 350 persons assembled. We were three hours in the chapel and then we were obligated to hasten on our journey." He was writing about our church at New Germany.

This year, 2009, we are 165 years old! This church congregation has been a significant part of the spiritual journeys of many people over the years, and continues to be a vibrant community as we face the challenges of continuing in ministry together.

On Saturday, August 8th  & Sunday, August 9th (2009) we will be having some special “Anna”versary Celebrations(“Anna”-versary /i.e.Rev Anna Hoeg) and invite all former, present, (and prospective?) members and friends to join us. There will be an Open House and Barbecue on Saturday and Morning Worship and Reception on Sunday.

We’d also like to hear from any clergy family members who may be interested in visiting one of the churches of their childhood or of their ancestors. We are a rural parish, and were often ministered to by young clergy straight from seminary many of whom had young families while they were here.   [Our Clergy have included Snyder(1852), Brown(1875), Gwillim(1889), Parry(1890), Andrews(1895), Johnston(1896), Mellor(1897), Johnson(1898), Martell(1909), Harrison(1916), Elliott(1918), Knickle(1920), Brown(1927), Ott(1923), Veinotte(1938), French(1942), Chard(1944), Martell(1948), Isaacs(1954), Trueman(1955), Purvis(1960), Thirkell(1961), Doherty(1964), Purchase(1965), Tattrie(1972), Rigby(1977), Robertson(1984), Armstrong(1990), McClure-Fraser(1997), Henderson(2003), Hoeg(2006)]

If you’d like to join us or wish to know more about our celebration, please contact the “Anna”versary Committee through Catherine Robar at (644-2854) or cf.robar@ns.sympatico.ca

We would like to invite and encourage any whom might be visiting in the Annapolis/Digby area to join us in any of the following Services during the month of August 2009, at St. Anne’s Anglican Birch Chapel, 159 Harbourview, Smith’s Cove, Digby County
