Diocesan Pandemic Task Force to meet during the summer

Bishop Moxley has called for interested individuals to work on a pandemic plan for the Diocese. In response to a call for interested parties, seven individuals have stepped forward to assist in the preparation of the necessary materials and plans for the Diocese. The Bishop has asked Patrick Hartling, the Diocesan HR Advisor and a seasoned Human Resources professional, and Gordon Redden, the Diocesan Executive Director, to Co Chair this Task Force.

In view of the apparent possibilities for the need for these policies and procedures, she has asked the Task Force to present her with a report in early September.  The Task Force will be meeting and working during the summer, with a view to presenting ideas and seeking input from the Diocese during that period. Anyone wishing to suggest items or materials or resources for consideration of the Task Force can write the Co -Chairs c/o the Diocesan Executive Director.

Thanks very much,

Co- Chairs Redden and Hartling

A Note from St John-in-the-Wilderness, New Germany, NS

Dear Friends,

In 1844. Bishop John Inglis wrote in his journal, “Tuesday, July 23rd. After some heavy showers, we(the Reverends Philip Filleul & James Cochran) drove three miles to the church, or rather Chapel which is in the Parish of Lunenburg, and found 350 persons assembled. We were three hours in the chapel and then we were obligated to hasten on our journey." He was writing about our church at New Germany.

This year, 2009, we are 165 years old! This church congregation has been a significant part of the spiritual journeys of many people over the years, and continues to be a vibrant community as we face the challenges of continuing in ministry together.

On Saturday, August 8th  & Sunday, August 9th (2009) we will be having some special “Anna”versary Celebrations(“Anna”-versary /i.e.Rev Anna Hoeg) and invite all former, present, (and prospective?) members and friends to join us. There will be an Open House and Barbecue on Saturday and Morning Worship and Reception on Sunday.

We’d also like to hear from any clergy family members who may be interested in visiting one of the churches of their childhood or of their ancestors. We are a rural parish, and were often ministered to by young clergy straight from seminary many of whom had young families while they were here.   [Our Clergy have included Snyder(1852), Brown(1875), Gwillim(1889), Parry(1890), Andrews(1895), Johnston(1896), Mellor(1897), Johnson(1898), Martell(1909), Harrison(1916), Elliott(1918), Knickle(1920), Brown(1927), Ott(1923), Veinotte(1938), French(1942), Chard(1944), Martell(1948), Isaacs(1954), Trueman(1955), Purvis(1960), Thirkell(1961), Doherty(1964), Purchase(1965), Tattrie(1972), Rigby(1977), Robertson(1984), Armstrong(1990), McClure-Fraser(1997), Henderson(2003), Hoeg(2006)]

If you’d like to join us or wish to know more about our celebration, please contact the “Anna”versary Committee through Catherine Robar at (644-2854) or cf.robar@ns.sympatico.ca

We would like to invite and encourage any whom might be visiting in the Annapolis/Digby area to join us in any of the following Services during the month of July 2009, at St. Anne’s Anglican Birch Chapel, 159 Harbourview, Smith’s Cove, Digby County
