Stewardship Is For Kids!

Many people – teachers and parents alike – might think that stewardship is just for adults. They might object to talking to kids about giving time, talent and treasure to help others. However, stewardship really is for kids, too. Here are a few reasons why:

SOCIAL JUSTICE

KAIROS co-sponsoring national tour of Palestinian and Israeli peace activists, June 2-22 2009

Dear friends in the KAIROS network and member churches:

KAIROS has agreed to co-sponsor a national tour focused on a village in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Dates and contact information are included in this email. You're included in this email because Moncton, Fredericton and Halifax are among the stops.

The residents of Bil’in village have watched as more and more of their lands have been absorbed by Israel, despite international laws and resolutions that clearly recognise the boundary between Israel and Palestine.  Since 2005, villagers have led weekly non-violent protests, with the active participation from both Israeli and international solidarity activists, in opposition to illegal Israeli colonization and annexation of Palestinian land. When they discovered that two Canadian companies were violating international law by building houses on occupied land they launched legal action against Green Park International Inc. and Green Mount International Inc. The case has been filed in the Quebec Superior Court in Montreal.

As part of our Middle East peace work, KAIROS seeks to help local churches and ecumenical groups find good education resources, and to begin to talk about these complex and important issues. We invite you to engage in learning about the many groups—Jewish, Muslim, Christian and non-religious—who are working behind the headlines for a just peace in Israel-Palestine. This tour is a chance to meet some of these people directly.

What you can do:

* Visit the tour blog and website to learn more about Bil’in’s situation: Scroll down and see also http://bilinmtl.blogspot.com and http://www.bilin-village.org/english/

* Come out to one of the tour’s public events if you can. Invite your parish, youth group, and friends.

* Visit the KAIROS Middle East pages, and have a look at the resources there:

http://www.kairoscanada.org/en/rights-and-trade/focus-countries/palestine-israel/

*Consider setting up a study or solidarity group in your community or church. Support Palestinian farmers and peace groups by purchasing fairly traded olive oil and reflecting on KAIROS’ economic advocacy measures paper (PDF document).

OTHER ITEMS OF INTEREST:

A message to Anglican churches from Hi-Fi Hymn Book:

I'm writing to introduce you to a new service we're very pleased to provide to Christian churches. Hi-Fi Hymn Book is a non-profit organization that makes high quality pipe organ accompaniment to public domain hymns available at no charge via mp3 downloads from our website http://hifihymnbook.com We've also recently added a Service Music section for amens, doxologies and masses that are suitable for congregational singing.

Missionaries, smaller churches, and even some military chaplains in the field have already taken advantage of our service. In addition to providing older mass settings by composers such as John Merbecke, we're excited to announce that we've just been licensed to record settings by modern American composer Richard Proulx, whose music has been described as "the most performed music in this country, every Sunday throughout the United States."

The site has a fun, fifties theme that's centered on a diner-style jukebox connecting visitors to our ever growing hymn catalog. Response to the launch of the site has been incredibly encouraging, thanks mainly to YouTube viewers who've played over a third of a million of our videos over the past six months, and often check out our site to see what we're all about! You can visit us on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/user/hifihymnbook

Hope you enjoy the site, and we're looking forward to serving your churches soon!
