Diocesan Council meets June 19th (7-9pm) and 20th (9am-3pm) at the Anglican Diocesan Centre in Halifax. Regional Councils that have not already done so are reminded that, subsequent to the motion that carried at Synod, they are to elect a Lay and Clergy member to Diocesan Council. Representative must be members of the 2009 Synod. Names and contact information is to be submitted to Jan Connors by June 13th; (by the 12th, if at all possible, please.)

Pastoral Care 101: A free workshop for people who want to learn active listening skills and make conversation that comforts, encourages and matters. Led by Patricia O’Halloran, Chaplain at the Dartmouth General. Wednesday June 10th, 9:30am to noon, at The Birches (Nursing home next to Twin Oaks Hospital) in Musquodoboit Harbour, 35 minutes from Dartmouth. All welcome. This workshop would be excellent for lay visitors, those discerning NSOM, and those who care for a family member or friend.

2010 Commemorative Stole
As part of the upcoming 2010 celebrations, special commemorative stoles will be available for purchase by parishes and individual clergy. The stoles will be a cream coloured straight cut design and will bear a machine embroidered 2010 logo. The estimated cost will be in the vicinity of $50. The work is being done on a volunteer basis by a small group of interested and experienced, "top notch" seamstresses, for the sole purpose of beautifying and contributing to the celebration of our 300th anniversary as a diocese. We are planning to have 100 commemorative stoles ready for the 2009 Synod. Priests and parish representatives are encouraged to purchase and pick-up their stoles at that time. Many of the stoles are already spoken for. If you would like a stole and have not yet contacted Daphne please do so and she will reserve one for you.

Thankfulness - Stewardship calls us to be ever grateful for the gifts that God has given. Not only are we called to be grateful to God, but we also must be grateful to one another. Just as we thank God every day, a stewardship parish must also show gratitude, recognition and appreciation to those who have given generously to the support of the parish.
Counter-Cultural - Stewardship is counter-cultural. While society encourages us to continually strive for more and more, stewardship helps us to recognize that we already have more than enough. In fact, we have enough to share.

KAIROS co-sponsoring national tour of Palestinian and Israeli peace activists, June 2-22 2009
Dear friends in the KAIROS network and member churches:
KAIROS has agreed to co-sponsor a national tour focused on a village in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Dates and contact information are included in this email. You're included in this email because Moncton, Fredericton and Halifax are among the stops.
The residents of Bil’in village have watched as more and more of their lands have been absorbed by Israel, despite international laws and resolutions that clearly recognise the boundary between Israel and Palestine. Since 2005, villagers have led weekly non-violent protests, with the active participation from both Israeli and international solidarity activists, in opposition to illegal Israeli colonization and annexation of Palestinian land. When they discovered that two Canadian companies were violating international law by building houses on occupied land they launched legal action against Green Park International Inc. and Green Mount International Inc. The case has been filed in the Quebec Superior Court in Montreal.
As part of our Middle East peace work, KAIROS seeks to help local churches and ecumenical groups find good education resources, and to begin to talk about these complex and important issues. We invite you to engage in learning about the many groups—Jewish, Muslim, Christian and non-religious—who are working behind the headlines for a just peace in Israel-Palestine. This tour is a chance to meet some of these people directly.

Poverty Justice Camp is Now Accepting Registration! We are very please to be accepting registration for Poverty Justice Camp. The registration deadline is June 12th, 2009. For the middle three days of the camp participants will be dividing into small immersion groups.
