Summer Ministry Opportunity -- Cadet Chaplain
Are you interested in working with youth? Would you have seven weeks this summer to work as a chaplain in a Cadet Summer Training Centre?

CEILIDH A GREAT SUCCESS!
The hall looked wonderful, the chowder superb as always, and everyone in the hall was Irish!
Father Michael Mitchell was the MC for the St. Patrick's Ceilidh held on March 20, at St. John's, Lunenburg, and thanks to everyone involved, the evening was a great success. Thanks to donations and ticket sales, St. John's Ringers were able to raise over $3000 and will now be off to Bellfest 2009 in Moncton.

MinistryMatters is a magazine that publishes articles, resources, and
information to inspire and support Canadian Anglican leaders in their
ministry. This award-winning publication is now moving online, and we’re
looking for a few good columnists.
WHAT WE NEED:
-Online columnists would write one 500- to 750-word article each month
for a six-month stint. Articles could address a range of topics
interesting to Canadian Anglican leaders.
-If readers post comments in response to an article, columnists are
expected to keep up with the discussion and throw their two cents in.
WHO WE NEED:
-Canadian Anglicans (especially, but not necessarily, in ordained
ministry) who think interesting thoughts and write dazzling prose.

2010 Commemorative Stole
As part of the upcoming 2010 celebrations, special commemorative stoles will be available for purchase by parishes and individual clergy. The stoles will be a cream coloured straight cut design and will bear a machine embroidered 2010 logo. The estimated cost will be in the vicinity of $50. The work is being done on a volunteer basis by a small group of interested and experienced, "top notch" seamstresses, for the sole purpose of beautifying and contributing to the celebration of our 300th anniversary as a diocese. We are planning to have 100 commemorative stoles ready for the 2009 Synod. Priests and parish representatives are encouraged to purchase and pick-up their stoles at that time. Many of the stoles are already spoken for. If you would like a stole and have not yet contacted Daphne please do so and she will reserve one for you.
TEC 15 - Teens Encounter Christ

What: TEC is an Anglican based weekend for youth ages 16-21 to gather together for fun, learning and fellowship. Through a series of talks, discussions, and through lively worship we learn about and experience Jesus Christ.

A Special Youth Concert at St. John’s Anglican Church in Lunenburg
Music students from Iqaluit will be visiting and performing in Nova Scotia during the week of May 10 – 16. During that time a special concert featuring Aqsarniit School Choir, the Iqaluit Fiddle Club and performers of drum dancing and throat singing will join the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts Chamber Orchestra in a performance at St. John’s Anglican Church in Lunenburg on Thursday, May 14 at 7 pm.

Musique Royale presents Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra
The Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, featuring 50 of our province’s finest young instrumentalists, will perform at St. John’s Anglican Church in Lunenburg on Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 pm
The Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, under Music Director Dinuk Wijeratne, brings characteristic vibrancy to a program which reflects versatility and eclectic tastes. Sixteen-year-old Maia Bruce is soloist in Elgar's passionate 'Cello Concerto; the inspiration of images on music is explored in ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ by Mussorgsky; and the seminal minimalist masterpiece 'IN C' by Terry Riley will be given a unique interpretation as the musicians surround the audience in swirls of sound.
The Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1977. For thirty-two years, the NSYO has provided students with educational opportunities not available at any university, public school, or conservatory in the province. The Orchestra has been described by renowned professional conductors and musicians as one of the finest in Canada.
Tickets for the concert are $15 ($5 for students) and are available at Fulton’s Pharmacy and at the door.

Give it a Try...
Remember when you first learned to ride a bike? Maybe you tried and tried and almost gave up. But you kept at it. What seemed almost impossible eventually became quite simple. If you had never tried, you would have missed out.
Tithing is like that. It is humanly understandable that we want to satisfy our own wants and pay our bills first, and then give whatever is left over to God. But God invites us to try a different approach to our giving:
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse and put me to the test says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down an overflowing blessing for you.” (Malachi 3:8-12),
He invites us to TRY. To TRY is to make an attempt. Some people TRY in earnest, they give it their all. Others TRY only half-heartedly – assuming failure from the start. Take a risk. Yeah? but what if it doesn’t work? Nothing ventured, nothing gained! What have you got to lose! Try a tithe for just one Sunday. Calculate your income in an average week, multiply it by ten percent and give that amount in the Sunday offering plate. Try a Tithe.

Two-Eyed Seeing - Native Wisdom as our Climate Changes

Western science and technology has led us to where we are today - a world of pollution, imbalance, extinctions and threatening climate change. We fear that the knowledge that got us here will not get us out! Welcome to a vision that integrates our prevailing understandings with Traditional Indigenous Worldviews. Two-Eyed Seeing brings together the guiding principles, knowledge and strengths of indigenous worldviews with those of Western science and technology, offering us a more complete picture of our world - and so a more complete approach toward the proper care for our planet.
When we integrate our perspectives, we can more easily integrate ourselves, and move forward together to heal our planet.
Join the Aboriginal Rights Coalition - Atlantic, for this truly cross-cultural experience of our world! Led by Elders Albert and Murdena Marshall, we will learn about Two-Eyed Seeing, and then peer through this lens as we examine our world, our relationships and our ways forward together. All are welcome to this accessible, inclusive gathering.
Albert Marshall and Murdena Marshall are Elders of Eskasoni First Nation, who helped to establish and teach Two-Eyed Seeing in the Integrative Science program at Cape Breton University. What is the goal of "civilization" if its thrust forward leaves behind the world's ecosystems and a large percentage of our children as veritable roadkill? What on earth are we doing?
Spend time with the irrepressible Stephen Bede Scharper, in hopeful exploration of the connections between liberation and ecological worldviews, the Option for the Poor and the Option for the Earth. Touch at the very heart of the human project. Using the framework of both a theology of liberation, such as espoused by Gustavo Gutierrez, and of the new cosmology, as proposed by Thomas Berry, courageously unmask the foundational questions raised by our global environmental and poverty crises. Build hope, and become empowered, not paralyzed, amidst the sobering reality of global warming and global poverty.
Leadership:
Stephen Bede Scharper is an Associate Professor of Environmental Ethics, Centre for Environment, University of Toronto, and the Department of Anthropology (UTM). A widely published essayist and popular lecturer, he is Faith and Ethics columnist for the Toronto Star, and author of Redeeming the Time; A Political Theology of the Environment. He will be joined by Wilf Bean and Nan Corrigan.
