expected to keep up with the discussion and throw their two cents in.

WHO WE NEED:
-Canadian Anglicans (especially, but not necessarily, in ordained
ministry) who think interesting thoughts and write dazzling prose.

WHAT TO DO NEXT:
-Email a short statement of introduction, three column ideas, and two

2010 Commemorative Stole

As part of the upcoming 2010 celebrations, special commemorative stoles will be available for purchase by parishes and individual clergy. The stoles will be a cream coloured straight cut design and will bear a machine embroidered 2010 logo. The estimated cost will be in the vicinity of $50. The work is being done on a volunteer basis by a small group of interested and experienced, "top notch" seamstresses, for the sole purpose of beautifying and contributing to the celebration of our 300th anniversary as a diocese. We are planning to have 100 commemorative stoles ready for the 2009 Synod. Priests and parish representatives are encouraged to purchase and pick-up their stoles at that time. Halifax, NS – Atlantic School of Theology is pleased to present the Keramion Trio in concert on Wednesday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m.

St. Cecilia Concert Society presents Ernst Family Singers and Togni Concert

Everything from Chant to Palestrina to Beatbox

Lunenburg’s treasured family of singers joins forces with the Halifax based Togni Consort, conducted by Peter Togni, Canadian choral icon, composer, organist, jazz musician and current host and producer of CBC’s Choral Concert. The concert takes place at St. John’s Anglican Church on Sunday, April 19 at 3:00 pm.

The Ernst Family is a vocal ensemble consisting of ten members, aged seven to adult, singing everything from solos to eight-part harmony.  They perform Renaissance, classical, traditional sacred, spiritual, and folk music.  Most of the music is sung a cappella, with an occasional piano or guitar accompaniment.  The genetic similarity of the voices gives a harmonious blend rare in unrelated voices. The six eldest children also perform as the Ernst Family Sibtet.

The Togni Concert is a 10 voice a capella mixed choir (SATB) specializing in renaissance polyphony and gregorian chant. The Halifax based consort was formed in 2006 under the direction of Peter Togni.

Tickets for the concert are $15 ($5 for students) and are available at Fulton’s Pharmacy and at the door.

The St. Cecilia Concert Society gratefully acknowledges the support of the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism and Culture, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Doctor Piano, Women for Music, O'Regan's and individual patrons.

STEWARDSHIP:

Is Your Cup Half-Full or Half Empty?

In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly”(John 10:10). Jesus wants us to have an abundant life. God has given us everything we need. We have abundance. But often we talk about what is lacking: there’s not enough money, time, energy or people. Jesus offers us another way of thinking which could be called “Jesus Economics” or thinking in terms of half-full as opposed to half empty. Open- sum thinking as opposed to fixed-sum. Fixed-sum thinking is seeing the resources that are available to us like a pie: there are only so many pieces.  If  I  want to get more pieces out of the pie,  I have to cut smaller pieces; therefore each person gets less. Jesus prefers an open-sum viewpoint. If I share my resources with the community and my resources are put together with other’s resources, there are unlimited possibilities to what we can do. Your gain is my gain is our gain. The classic story of open-sum thinking is the feeding of the 5000. God has provided us with more than enough, all we need to do is recognize what we have and put it together with what others have to the benefit of us all.

PWRDF accepts donations for Italy quake relief
staff
Apr 14, 2009

The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) is accepting
donations for victims of the powerful earthquake that devastated the
medieval city of L'Aquila, in central Italy, and the surrounding areas
on April 6.

As of April 9, the death toll from the earthquake rose to 283, according
to CBC News. At least 1,000 people were injured and 17,000 others left
homeless.

"Affluent countries like Italy have more capacity and infrastructure to
respond to emergencies than less affluent countries. PWRDF does,
however, accept designated donations for disasters globally...and
forwards them through an appropriate agency," PWRDF said in a press
statement.

Donations for the Italy earthquake will be forwarded to Caritas
Internationalis, the Roman Catholic church's international aid and
development organization. Caritas works closely with Action by Churches
Together (ACT) International, a coalition that responds to natural
disasters and humanitarian crises, of which PWRDF is a member.

A member of the Parish of Clements Council recently heard a commentary on CBC Radio about 2 Canadians that are running a school/home for orphaned children in Haiti. The head lady has used up all of her life savings trying to feed, cloth, school, etc these children and they are in real need from month to month just to survive.

The Diocese has confirmed with PWRDF that they do no work in Haiti.  Bishop Sue notes that Haiti is part of the Episcopal Church USA, and that some of our people might appreciate knowing about this project.

This orphanage has a web site - hats-haiti.com- which explains what this agency is all about.

The Heart of the Human Project: Our Contemporary Vocation

May 11-13

Tatamagouche Centre

What is the goal of "civilization" if its thrust forward leaves behind the world's ecosystems and a large percentage of our children as veritable roadkill? What on earth are we doing?

Spend time with the irrepressible Stephen Bede Scharper, in hopeful exploration of the connections between liberation and ecological worldviews, the Option for the Poor and the Option for the Earth. Touch at the very heart of the human project. Using the framework of both a theology of liberation, such as espoused by Gustavo Gutierrez, and of the new cosmology, as proposed by Thomas Berry, courageously unmask the foundational questions raised by our global environmental and poverty crises. Build hope, and become empowered, not paralyzed, amidst the sobering reality of global warming and global poverty.

Leadership:

Stephen Bede Scharper is an Associate Professor of Environmental Ethics, Centre for Environment, University of Toronto, and the Department of Anthropology (UTM). A widely published essayist and popular lecturer, he is Faith and Ethics columnist for the Toronto Star, and author of Redeeming the Time; A Political Theology of the Environment. He will be joined by Wilf Bean and Nan Corrigan.

Cost: $390 ($235 tuition + $155 meals/accommodation)
